Has anyone been to the WWII fort that was never completed on Water Island? If so, is it worth a trip? I'm planning to go to Water Island anyway for Honeymoon Beach so I would not be making a trip just for this.

For reference: I heard about this site from https://www.vinow.com/waterisland/attractions_wi/

It is interesting to just take a look. There is not much to it - in terms of being a museum type set up - it is not. There are no placards saying this is what this was for, or this is when it was built ect. I found it interesting, I have been there three times. I hiked around Water Island quite a bit when working on the Water Island section of VInow. It is quite a good hike up to the Fort, if you are into hiking, and looking around new places then its worth it. What to expect - very few people, few cars, just you and the road and the view of the island and the water. Quite nice. Take water and a snack, there are no stores of any kind over there. A combination of hiking around the island, up to the fort and Honeymoon Beach is a nice day. But it is not for someone who wants a tour guide, or museum type set up, or is not interested in this type of structure or the fact that there is a WWII fort on little WaterIsland to begin with. Tell me what your expectations are and perhaps I can let you know if you have the right picture of what it is all about.

Thanks for the info! I took a quick half-day trip to Water Island two trips ago and had a fabulous time on Honeymoon beach. The highlight was a pod of porpoises in the bay. Anyway, I think I'll definitly make sure to get back there and probably check out the fort - really, all I'm looking for is a great new view that I haven't seen before.

Thanks again,
James

Well knowing that you have been there before and enjoyed its tranquilty tells me you will more than likely enjoy your day there again, including hiking around the island and to the fort. Come back and let us know how you enjoyed your trip and your day on Water Island.
