I've never been on an airplane and I'm terrified even thinking about getting in one. Jet, do you have any suggestions for me? 🙁

Valium or xanax to calm your nerves for the flight?

You can visit the VI on a cruiseship as well.

Regina, perfectly understandable. What exactly are you afraid of? Crashing? Being cramped into a tiny space? Not being in control?

If you are afraid of crashing, well, you have a better chance of being struck by lightening twice or winning the Power Ball lottery than dying in a plane crash. I know that stats mean nothing when you're floating in a tin can 37,000 feet in the air, but rest assured when in a jet you're in one of the safest places on earth although it may not feel like it. There are tons of resources on the net that deal with this type of thing. You might find some of them helpful. Just type in 'fear of flying' into your favorite search engine and you should uncover a plethora of information regarding the subject.

I'd worry more about riding in the taxis around the Island than flying! 😉 Try a taxi ride on St John from Cruz Bay to Cinnamon Bay...it scared me more than flying...heh.

Airplanes are very safe and there's little to no reason to fear much of anything. Flying out of some of the major hubs like Charlotte, Philly, Atlanta, etc they almost always fly the big jets (757). You barely even realize you're flying because they're so smooth. Plus, within a few hours rather than a few days you are walking off an airplane and greeted with rum punch while you get your luggage. Plus you can get breathtaking views of a great number of Caribbean Islands. Well worth it to fly if you ask me. 🙂

Regina,
I didn't get to fly til I was 29. My know Husband asked what I wanted for my birthday and I said fly before 30. So he took me out for dinner at the riverwalk in San Antonio. (No wonder I married my man heh? We live in Ohio?) I got a great dinner, a walk and the first ever flight. Anyways, I was scared to death. But a few of your favorite drinks and boom there you are. Get a friend, plan the trip, save and just do it. You might love it. Like I do....

Regina-

It's approximately 3 1/2 hours to fly from NYC to STT- and all of it is over water. Yeah, I get the heebie-jeebies as soon as I board-- but I defy anyone to come up with a more beautiful sight than your first view of the islands from the air. Get on that plane! Its an experience not to be missed.

Thanks so much for all your responses! I appreciate the support! I have no doubts about the wonderful views from the airplane. I was kind of hoping to avoid a close up view of the water, if you know what I mean. LOL! ;p

Regina...you will actually love the flight...(I won't go into the close up of the water)...hehehe. (Just Kidding! errr...it's all good).

Look at it this way (I don't know where you live so it's a guess)...

I leave at 06:00 from Indy and arrive 08:00 ATL. Catch flight from ATL 11:00 (ish) arrive ST Thomas 15:00 (3PM)(ish). The same day I leave for paradise...I arrive in paradise within a few hours. BOOYA! The more time actually spent in the islands the better!

Sure you could take a slow cruise, but you'd only be allowed 8 hours in paradise before you head back to Miami (ugh). 🙂

Grab a flight! It'll be fun AND worth it! 🙂
