How difficult is the walking on Water Island? there will be 6 of us with varying degrees of mobility. Is walking from the ferry dock to Honeymoon Beach difficult? How about walking to Pirates Ridge?
Thanks

Hello mquest & welcome to the message board.

Water Island is a small island, only about 490 acres and the highest point is just 300 feet, so the roads are mostly gradual inclines; nothing very steep or difficult. The walk from the ferry dock to Honeymoon Beach takes about 10 minutes each way. It is a gradual uphill hike and then a fairly steep but short downhill hike to the beach.

From Honeymoon Beach to Pirates Ridge - there is a path through the trees and some steps on the left side of the beach (left when facing the water). You take the steps up and then a very short walk and the path to Pirates Ridge is at the intersection, path passes a residence. Its about a 5 minute walk. If you were heading to Pirates Ridge for the deli/grocery store - I don't know if they are open. They were closed for a while.

For food/drink: Heidi's Grill usually sets up on Honeymoon Beach around lunch time and Joe's Beach Bar too. You can get food/drinks from them. Also there is sometimes a pizza boat that comes into the bay and that would be another option. You might also bring some water and snacks with you just in case.

We, Water Island, are getting more and more visitors from cruise ships that dock at Crown Bay Marina. Rather than taking/paying for an organized excursion, some passengers are opting to walk across the street (or take a taxi from Havensite) to Crown Bay Marina, take the Water Island Ferry (ferry schedule is on this VINOW web site), and spend the day on Honeymoon Beach. And, visitors who are staying on STT for the week or so are also coming over more frequently. Take the walk up the hill from the ferry landing slow for those with mobility issues but Islander is right.

Heidi Honeymoon Grill sets up at 11:00 a.m. and serves a varied lunch menu (tasty and affordable) and offers drinks (alcoholic, sodas, water, etc.) Joe's Beach Bar is beside the pavilion building and serves blender drinks and beer. (Excellent rum runners, pain killers, and all the Caribbean favorites). Pirates Ridge is more miss than hit as far as being open for business.

Have a great time!

MQuest,

The recent Colors of Paradise episode takes viewers from the ferry dock on Water Island along to Honeymoon Beach. You can watch it and get a visual of the road/hike and the beach. Check it out: Colors of Paradise TV - Hike to Honeymoon Beach, Water Island.

If you have members of your group with limited mobility, the walk to Honeymoon beach isn't that bad, but the walk back to the ferry dock is up a pretty steep hill. Be prepared!
