Is there a trail or walkway way from
the cruise dock pier to downtown. If so how far is it?
Thanks

There is a sidewalk most of the way. It is one mile from Wendy's to town.

You can walk easily to town, but the route isn't marked. Most people will tell you it's a 2.5 mile walk, but I think they tell people that to discourage them so they'll take a taxi instead.

The sidewalk starts at Wendy's. Stay on it all the way to town. There's a section that forks to the left heading towards the water, but it's incomplete so stay on the portion of the sidewalk that's closest to the street.

If you want to walk, I suggest you go early in the day before it gets too hot. If you do start walking and change your mind, you can always hop on a taxi that's already going to town (for $4/each of course!).

From the Wendys in Havensight it will take you 15-20min to walk downtown depending on your pace. The taxi drivers will tell you that it is 2.5 miles. If that is the case I need to try out for the olympics because I run from Havensight to Frenchtown all the time and it only takes me 9 min to get from port of sale mall to front edge of downtown.
One thing to consider is that there is no shade on the walk path so cover up accordingly. When Yact Haven is completed it will be very easy for Cruise Ship passengers to walk downtown.

I saw lots of ship passengers walking to and from town last week. The view isn't great when you start out since the Wendys area is across the street from a public housing project. But, that part is very brief and you'll soon be alongside the most beautiful harbot water you've ever seen (the harbor water seems seee pretty to me!!) and you'll have a lovely view of the mountainsides over Charlotte Amalie, etc. You'll also pass Bluebeard's Castle and the fort.

Walking gives you a great vantage and time to relax before you get into the thick of downtown and the shopping frenzy.

I wonder if the ships provide a walking guide. Someone should come up with a ship passenger's guide to walking to Charlotte Amalie so you'll know what you're seeing along the way.

Hi, Bluwater. No, NOBODY PROVIDES A WALKING GUIDE. Since taxi drivers rule here, I doubt that'll happen. Maybe Islander should post it on VINow???? Islander, are you listening???

In Martinique, they've painted blue footprints from the dock to town so you won't get lost. Such a great idea! It's about the same distance to their town as it is to ours.

I can't tell you how many people I've seen walk out Havensight's main gate with the intention of walking. They make that left turn right out the gate where there's NO SIDEWALK, CURB, or anything to protect them from the traffic. Just accidents waiting to happen.

Yes, another great idea, the blue footprints! Also, the walking guide. Islander must be taking notes. It is easiest for a resident to do this since trial walks will be needed.
