Through my research it looks as though the last VITRAN out of Cruz Bay is at 7:25 pm. Is this in correlation to the arrival of ferries out of Red Hook (does VITRAN wait for the ferry before departing)? Reason behind this is we are without a rental vehicle our first evening on STJ due to our arrival time as well as vehicle unavailability. Thanks in advance!

The bus USUALLY leaves after the ferry unloads but it doesn't run very late, if memory serves me correct. Where are you staying?

That is just it, we are staying all the way out at Concordia so a couple bus fares are much more desirable than the cab expense! I just wish reaching Concordia wouldn't feel like such a chore. We are starting our day from Mpls with connections in Miami and San Juan, then the cab to Red Hook, followed by ferry with what looks to be a split second connection to a bus...YIKES! Looks and sounds like a destination worth the effort though! We will have a vehicle for the remainder of our stay however, just not until the next day.

Word of warning, the bus has been pretty unreliable lately. I've hear people say that they waited a couple of hours and finally just started hitchhiking. You can ask people if the bus has been running once you get off the ferry. I'd hate for you to have to sit and wait and wait and never get the bus. It will cost a lot more for a taxi, but at least you wont have to wait and wonder.

When you get there see if the bus is on time. If not then you will need to take a taxi. I WOULD NEVER COUNT ON A SCHEDULE@!!!!!
I might suggest that you rent a car for a day or two. Do all your running around. Then send the driver back to Cruz and then he can take the bus. That my be another option.

Yes the last bus leaves around 7:20pm but it does not always wait for the ferry to unload - I have seen it many times leave as the ferry was approx half unloaded 🙁

As far as I know, the last bus always runs (I hear it from my house and we can set our watches by the last one 🙂 ) and I would have one person run to the bus and hold it if you are planning to go to Concordia that way.

Do bring flashlights with you as you will need them for the walk to Concordia and I assume you will have carry on only - I wouldn't like to walk to Concordia with luggage in the dark - no fun.
