HEllo everyone! It's been awhile since I posted anything but I am back! I know it's a way out but my family and I are traveling to the islands by way of the Disney Cruise in Jan and I posted this before but I would really like to get as much insite that I can so I can make the best of the little time I have to be a guest on your island! We arrive in STT on Wednesday the 11th docking at 8am and leaving at 4pm. There are things I would like to do but really need some serious input. The things I would like to know are these!

1) I want to go to STJ for the day we are there and want to go to some of the beaches for snorkling and swimming! However I also want to do some shopping and have lunch at Woody's not to mention some drinks! So what I need I guess are some specifics on how to get from the the port at STT to STJ, the best way to get to the beaches and shopping and Woodys once we are the there and the best beach to visit on this short stop! What beach is close to Woody's? Can you walk to the beach from Woody's? There are 5ppl in my party! The more specific the info the better please! I want to be able to hit the ground running once I do arrive! Thank you all for your help

2) Where is the best shopping? Need to get some jewelry!

P.S. Have any of you ever considered doing some private tours in your spare time? Ya'll would make a killing! 🙂

Hi Felicia,

I don't know the answer to all your questions but I can offer some input since we have cruised with DCL and visited both St. Thomas and St. John on the day we docked in Charlotte Amalie back in 2002.

If things haven't changed, you have to clear customs in the Walt Disney Theater before disembarking the ship in St. Thomas. GET THERE EARLY as they go by rows of seating and if remembering correctly, it wasn't all that quick of a process.

Hopefully they will clear the ship early and you will need to taxi to the ferry dock and get on the earliest ferry possible (someone else may be able to help you with times). Once there I would suggest Trunk Bay for beach and snorkelling time. You won't have much time on the beach if you want to have lunch/drinks at Woody's with a little shopping afterward.

You have a lot planned for so little time but I believe it can be done if you communicate well, have everything organized and above all, don't daudle. Your day will probably feel a little rushed. When we disembarked the ship, we went straight to the CA ferry (this might not be the best thing to do). We arrived on St. John between 10:00-10:30 and took a taxi straight to Trunk Bay where we stayed until sometime between 1:00-1:30. We caught the 2:00 ferry back to St. Thomas and did about an hour's worth of shopping at Havensight before having a taxi take us back to the ship. I believe we left the island at 4:30 and we cut it pretty close so you see that there is time for lunch in there someplace albiet hurriedly.

We were rushed that day, but I'm so glad we did it because I left my heart on that gorgeous island and I knew I would be back to claim it again for a week this time! C'mon June, I can hardly wait! Hopefully, others can offer some input. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you so much for the info Chris! This is why I am trying to get as much info as possible so that it can be well planned! We got our passports so I hope that will speed things up in customs and I will make sure that I get all the info for that once onboard. I was wondering if I should go to the beaches in St Marteen and swim and snorkle since I really don't know much about that Island! Honestly I wish we could spend 2 days in STJ and forget STM. So if we swim and hang out there than we could have more time for seeing things on STJ! I'm just so excited my head is in a fog!

Thanks again and I do hope some others can help as well.

Hello Felicia,

It’s about a 17-20 minute drive to Red Hook from Havensight. You'd basically take a taxi to the ferry dock... buy tickets... get on the ferry. On the St. John side there are always a few taxis waiting by the ferry dock, find one and head off to the beach. Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay usually have taxis waiting at a taxi stand area, so if you went to either of those two beaches when you are ready to head back to Cruz Bay you can easily find a taxi. You can do some shopping in Cruz Bay or wait until you get back to St. Thomas. Woody's is located in Cruz Bay.

Well I was going to say there aren't any beaches in really short walking distance from Woody's but that would be sort of wrong. Little Cruz Bay is in walking distance; it is used as the harbor area so isn't usually thought of in the same way as the other beaches on the island.
