Hello.....I am visiting St. John in July...I would like to know about the grocery stores there...also about fishing...and are the "no-see-ums" there in July...I visited St. Thomas and St . John about 5 years ago, and did not see any of these bugs......also how about scorpions? Where I am staying is on Johnson Bay.....I cannot find much info.. how is the swimming and snorkeling in Coral Bay? Are there places to rental snorkeling equip and about how much does the equip cost? Thanks.
Hello Mary,
Yes there are grocery stores on St. John, primarily in the Cruz Bay area.
Fishing - do you want to fish on your own - if yes you can try out by Leinster Bay, visit the National Park visitor center and get some help on where you can and can't fish and their regulations. If not do you want to do a charter fishing trip??
No see ums are always around - just worse sometimes - particularly when its rainy or at sunset.
Scorpions exist here, rare to see them though.
Swimming and snorkeling in Coral Bay??? You could go out to Salt Pond Bay or Lameshur - in that area.
Snorkel rental - if you plan to do a lot of snorkeling you might buy a mask and snorkel back home and bring it with you. Or else Trunk Bay and Cinnamon have rentals for day use on those beaches. You could try the dive shop in Cruz Bay for longer term rentals.
