Hello

We were at Coki Beach/Coral world last year. Loved it. Need advice . Which is easier/better snorkeling for pre-teens Coki beach or St johns?
How do we get to St john's by ferry ? How often do they run ? Which is easier/cheaper to buy tour from cruise ship or on our own?
How far from cruise ship docks ?
Where is Trunk Bay? How long to get there?
How much per person ? kids?
Any other suggestions?Thanks
Michele

Which St John's? There is a town in Arizona, Michigan and Montana. Also in Canada and Antigua

Or perhaps a better question to ask is, St. John's what?

For instance, you asked how to get to St. John's by ferry. Well, what part of St. John do you want to get to? If you want to get to St. John's dock in Cruz Bay, then you can catch a ferry either from Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook in St. Thomas.

You asked about snorkeling. By St. John's I assume you mean St. John's beaches or waters.

Okay, enough with the tongue-in-cheek response.

If you haven't guessed by now, there is no "s" on the end of St. John. Unless of course you're using it in the possessive sense as I've stated above.

Ha ha ha Michelle, there is no 's' in St.John. If you put an 's' in it you would be referring to a place in Antigua.

But to answer some of your questions, take the ferry from Red Hook to STJ. It will be $8 per person to the ferry from Havensight where the cruise ships are docked. Then $3 per person for the ferrry (20 or so minute ride). Then when you get there you can negotiate with one of the safari cabs for a private tour of the island or you can go to the National Parks booth and ask for a map then rent your own vehicle. Depends on how big a group you have.

Going the safari route would be better as you do not have to worry about getting lost plus you get to hit all the spots you want by just telling the driver where you want to go.

If you manage your time carefully, you might be able to squeeze in some snorkeling at Coki after STJ. Since you were at Coki already last time, do STJ first.

Now I don't know how much the cruie ship guys charge for a tour of STJ so can't help you there. Good luck!

Hello Michele,

Which is easier/better snorkeling for pre-teens Coki beach or St john beaches?
I think Coki Beach and Trunk Bay or Cinnamon Bay are both about the same for a preteen. If the person is weak swimmer then Coki might be better as the swim will be a little shorter.

You can take a taxi to the ferry dock in either Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook. There is a really complete comparison of the two at
https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/cruiseship/cruiseguide_page1.php
at the bottom of the page.

The ferry schedule you can find at
https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/interisland_ferry/

I have seen comparions of St. John on your own and by cruise ship excurion and for a single or couple it works out to be about the same. For a group I recall doing it on your own being a coupld dollars cheaper. But in reality in depends on the excursion. I think there is one that is just Trunk Bay - that one is the one I am thinking of. If you did one of the charters or some other type that involved hiking tours or something allow those lines it would be more money.

Easier would be letting someone else do everything for you - so taking the cruise ship excursion however doing it on your own is not difficult at all, just a matter of taking a taxi and taking a ferry. Doing it on your own has the benefit of allowing you to spend the amount of time you would like at the beach you would like rather then being on the excurions schedule.

Cruise Ship dock in Havensight to the Red Hook Ferry dock is about 17-20 minutes.

Trunk Bay is about 12-15 minutes from Cruz Bay.

Trunk Bay entrance fee is $4.

Taxi rates and ferry depends on age of child. The ferry rates are posted at the ferry link provided. Taxi - children under 6 years old pay half price.
