The Cruzan rum survey (thank you very much!) gave me an idea, and I'm hoping for maximum participation here!

I don't think the Virgin Islands has a signature drink. Cuba has the daiquiri, Cubana Libre, mojito, and possibly a few others. Hawaii has the mai tai, Curacao has Curacao, etc. It's time for the Virgin Islands to have their own drink, and this is where WE come in.

Let's submit our own original recipe, using - what else, Cruzan rum. We pledge to try the ones that appeal to us, and cast votes for our favorite. Recipe getting most votes becomes The Virgin Islander. Hopefully someone will come up with something that can convince the rum and Cokers to switch 🙂

At our next get together (not that I've been to any, LOL!) we all ask the bartender for The Virgin Islander, and of course, give him/her the recipe (with credits to creator). Anybody else coming for a visit should also order The Virgin Islander.

One of you media savvy people could, I'm sure, get the word out, and the winner could possibly become FAMOUS (well, famous to US anyway).

I'm going to try that coconut rum, pineapple, 7UP, cherry recipe. Sounds good to me!

Are we on????

I always thought that Bushwackers were the Virgin Islands signature drink?!

I Googled Bushwacker before posting. Saw something referencing a bushwacker recipe from FL that's different from one made here. To me, it doesn't evoke the Caribbean - Bailey's IRISH Cream, Frangelico, etc. According to this article, painkillers were created in St Croix. Who knew?

The Painkiller is a VI drink. Pussers identifies the Soggy Dollar as the birthplace of the "Pussers Painkiller". It's not clear if they're claiming that the "Pussers Painkiller" is the original Painkiller or not.

I read that as a recipe from St Croix. Soggy Dollar Bar does advertise that the Painkiller was born there.

Bushwackers always have dark Cruzan. I think the novelty is that liquor is relatively inexpensive here and a Bushwacker is all alcohol. Any recipe that has ice cream or cream of coconut is not an original!!

What a great idea! Bushwackers and Painkillers are two excellent candidates. And in the true VINOW spirit, I'll volunteer to try 'em all, and keep trying, until we all agree on a winner....(or I can't pronounce my screen name!!).

Hmmmm....never knew there was a question that painkillers were the VI drink...certainly, at least for me.
