Hello Islanders,

I will be staying on St John with my husband and his family in a house at the Virgin Grand Estates. I guess this is a fairly new community and was wondering if anyone has any detailed information on the location of this community, noise problems, construction going on, roosters/dogs (heehee).

This is our second time in St John and we are also celebrating our honeymoon as well as having a family vacation (we went for the "fun" and not the "romantic").

Also, can I just tell you that I can't freakin' wait! And, we are thinking about either renting a dingy or a big rubber boat (Noah's). We don't have any experience driving our own ship. Any suggestions, input.

PS, I've searched for forums on the web for St John and this is the best!

Lysa,

We will be staying in Virgin Grand Estates Dec. 17 in Cocotier. I believe it is located
straight above the Westin. This is our 8th trip, but the first in several years. Virgin Grand
Estates is new since we've been there, but I understand it's quite nice. We have stayed in that area before and the views are great!!

When are you arriving and where are you staying?

Wow, we are also staying at Cocotier! Have you heard anything about it? It's hard to find any info on it since it's so new.

I've only heard what the Destination St. John folks have told me. A couple of them have
said it's their favorite villa. Georgeous furnishings, sweeping views....the pictures on
the web site don't show the master bedroom. I was told it has a king bed and a beautiful bathroom.

Are you also renting through Destination St. John?

How did you come to choose this particular home? I was really struck by the pictures
and the available dates worked for us.

My mother-in-law handled the reservations and she was looking for a place closer to town and less of a heart-pounding drive! We used Destination St John last year and we stayed at Palomoa Blanca, a beautiful, comfortable home with amazing views. As far as I know, they were very helpful and accomodating.

I'm sure she was equally impressed by the pictures on the website of Coctier. I'm impressed with ALL the houses on the website! I wouldn't know which one to choose! But, since it's a new villa in a new community, I was trying to prepare for what might be around us re: construction, proximity of neighbors, etc. Not that anything would deter us! I've been having trouble concentrating at work, thinking instead about snorkeling and coral and palm trees and iguanas and sunset on the deck and Painkillers, etc.

Now that we've done the initial trip, we'd like to explore some of the lesser known adventures.

From what I have learned from the rental agency is that there is a home under construction next door, but that it should be about finished in Dec. If not, then it would be interior finishing touches. So there shouldn't be construction noise (at least from that home). I have not heard about anything down the street.

From what I can gleen, this is a "neighborhood". I think the homes are not really spaced apart too far. The lots are expensive and about a half acre or less. I was told
Cocotier has plenty of vegetation either planted or natural to keep it private.

I'm with you. With each trip I can hardly wait for the next. SJ is so good for the soul as well as the tan. In my perfect world I would have a home in SJ and be able tospend at least 3 or 4 months a year there. (Airfare alone prohibits that, not to mention the cost of real estate.)

Sitting here on election night I'm about to crawl out of my skin, but focusing on SJ helps take the edge off. (That and a bottle of vino)

B4 Westin the place, although different, was called Virgin Grand. I remember them digging up the place in the mid to late '80s. I believe it's one of the only man made beaches in the VI....
