Hello, I found a villa that I would love to rent and have been looking for any reviews on this called Villa carolina. Also when renting a villa is it common for the place of rental to not except credit cards, what would be a secure way to put a deposit down if no credit card is excepted? Thank you so much!
I think it's okay for a villa not to accept credit cards. I believe the one we rented from expected payment in full, 30 days prior to our arrival. It was sent in a form of a check, along with a check for security deposit. We had no problems. I just kept track of everything, check number, when sent, etc. Everything worked out smoothly. Island life is much slower and a little less formal than booking with a large NYC hotel. If you've spoken to the company and or seen them reviewed before, or they have many villas. I think you can assume they are reputable. Have Fun.
Kaye,
As a villa owner, I can tell you the reason we don't accept credit cards is simply because of the 4% to 8% fee we would have to pay (and therefore eventually pass onto our guests in higher prices) for using the card services. Further, we've had no problems with bad checks, etc, since virtually without exception anyone wishing to visit the USVI in the first place is inherently a fine upstanding citizen with outstanding judgement and integrity!
Seriously, as Donna J suggested, just keep track of the checks and deposits (as you would credit card charges) and everything should be fine.
Best,
Thank you, I am planning a honeymoon/vaccation for Dec of 2005. I am taking my parents along and decided on a villa as my reward for finishing up 6 years of college. I am also considering relocating for a year in hopes of teaching.
