Hello Again,
Do all the villas on St. John get cleaned by the same people or company? And what is the correct thing to do if we get there and we find it not too clean? Does the villa rental management walk through it before getting you at the dock? My husband has severe asthma and allergies and uses a breathing machine when needed. I need to make sure the bed sheets, blankets and pillow cases are cleaned before us heading in. Any complaints on cleaning Seaview Homes rentals on St. John? Thanks, Leslie
The companies have their own cleaners. There are not any cleaning companies on the island.
I would call ahead and talk to the rental company. I think that you will find that while the homes are cleaned very well and all the linens are always cleaned before you arrive, you will have a hard time keeping dust, etc out of the house. Many homes are more open air than not.
I don't think so - I have met many different housekeepers. I think they are employed by the different villa management companies and, in some cases, owners clean their own villas. I don't think that there is walk-through. IMO, if you are not happy with the condition of the villa for whatever reason then your issue is with the owner (if you are renting owner-direct) or with the villa management company.
I have asthma and allergies myself, though, and can tell you that I have never even used my inhaler while in the VI. I think it's an environmental thing - the allergens are just not in the air and I have never encountered too much dust, either. I do feel better in a fully a/c villa but have done the bedrooms-only a/c scenario without breathing problems.
I have a friend who has allergies to perfumes and she does bring her own bedding to the villa. I know that's a pain but she is just never sure if the detergent and fabric softener used on the bedding are going to be something she can handle. She feels that bringing her own is the way to be sure and then she doesn't have to worry about it or spend time re-washing. She has the same issue in hotels, although to a lesser degree, as most villas have consumer oriented detergents and products, rather than the unscented hospitality-based products used by most hotel chains.
Blankets are usually thin cotton because of the climate and get washed with the linens. I don't think that the pillows are washed after each guest - probably the pillow protectors but not the pillows themselves. Maybe someone else will chime in on that.
Each villa rental company has their own cleaners. It is very difficult to keep the dust out of homes on the islands and right now we are covered with dust from the Saraha Desert and the USVI's have been issued a "health warning" (although today it looks like it has gone 🙂 ) but this will happen many times during the summer months - that along with ash from Montserat if the volcano blows 🙁

Forgot about that kind of dust, Pia - I have never been down when any of that was going on.
Hi there,
Can't speak for the particular place you are renting. Different houses have different maids and this has been addressed. The agency can ck on houses periodically, but cannot go into every place, for every rental. If your place is not clean upon your arrival, you can call your agency immediately and have the maids come back until you are satisfied. All linens should and will be clean. Hope this helps!
