Hi all
Anyone have an idea where we can hire a chef or caterer to feed us during our stay on St Thomas in March? We will be eight young professionals sharing a villa for the week. The chef contact provided by the villa agent is rather more extravagant than we need. We're not looking for a nightly "dining experience", just someone to save us the trouble of cooking!
Is there a service that would provide precooked meals or (worst case), if we end up cooking for ourselves, help us with menu planning and food ordering? I can't even begin to guess about planning menus for eight for a week!!!
Thanks
Are you not planning on dining out at all during your stay? There are so many wonderful restaurants on St Thomas, it would be a shame to sit in your villa night after night eating in.
There may be someone who can make a recommendation but to the best of my knowledge most of the chefs/cooks who will come and cook at a villa for you are of the fine gourmet dining variety. Why don't you think about getting out and patronizing some of the local restaurants?
You won't be sorry!!!
Oh absolutely- didn't mean to imply that we weren't planning to patronize local restaurants. I've already located a number that look great! We'll definitely go out for our fine dining.
I only felt that for many reasons it would make sense with a large group to plan on eating in a few nights, not to mention the other meals we may also want to take at the house.
Sometimes cooking for a family of 2-3 can be the same amount of work as 8 Adults. Cooking in saves money, time and can be much more fun. Breakfast is easy with fresh fruit The old bacon and egg, toast & potatoes routine always works. Coffee is a must. Lunch can be sandwiches or even fast food. Dinner all depends on your cooking ability. Spaghetti and meatballs go a long way as does most italian foods....don't forget the wine!
Most hotels have grills outside for hambergers and steaks. Steak is easy. Have baked potatoes that can be made inside or on the grill...add a veggie and your dinner is served. Most people like to help cook so you will have 8 people then no problem. It is a thing of Love as they say on TVB.E. Guildy wrote:

Again, thanks much for the input but I fear we are wandering off topic. What I am looking for is a caterer or service that prepares and delivers pre-cooked meals at a fair price. I don't necessarily need a chef to cook in our villa kitchen or to serve us, would just like to save us some planning/cooking/shopping time when we do choose to eat in.
I use such a service here for parties as well as for some of our weekly meals- they deliver items such as stuffed chicken breasts, tenderloin, side dishes, etc. with all sauces and garnish so that I need only heat, finish, and serve.
If anyone knows of such a service, I would appreciate a name/number/website. Perhaps a local restaurant that does catering or someone with events or wedding catering experience?
Thanks!
B.E.,
I'm not aware of any service that matches the description of what you are looking for. Someone else may however.
You may want to consider purchasing some prepared meals from a company like ALaZing.com. They sell completely prepared meals and they arrive via FedEx frozen. You could order some and then bring them down in a cooler. Lots of people bring food with them to the island. I'm not one of them since one of the perks of being on vacation for me is eating OUT. St Thomas has so many great restaurants that I don't want to miss any of them.
