Planning a wedding/honeymoon for August 2005. After a lot of research we've decided to stay in a villa in St. John rather than one of the resorts.

My question is if anyone has any knowledge of the Spyglass Villa available through Destination St. John? I've seen great reviews of the Temptress and that would be my second choice but Spyglass seems a little smaller and costs about $500 less for the week. It appears to be very cozy and to have amazing views.

Any information about the villa specifically or the area (just outside Coral Bay, I believe)would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John

We found the big difference between east and west STJ (Coral versus Cruz) was access to ammenities. Cruz has a much larger selection of shops, restaurants, etc. but that also means there are more people. Coral is often referred as 'old island' with it's own charm and less populated feel. You will have a car/jeep so you are not locked into either, but if getting out every night to different places is on your wish list, Chocolate Hole would be more appopriate. On a honeymoon, you may want the privacy of Coral. Your choice.
Although Spyglass has a hot tub, I think the pool at Temptress will get more use. The pool will cool you off and rinse off salt during the day but not be so cold at night. The hot tub will be useful at night, but not much during the day.

We looked at renting spyglass this last June, but they were booked for our time period, and we used www.windspree.com accomadations. We rented the Sun Moon and Stars villa, and it was inexpensive, and luxorious. It had a nice pool and a huge deck with beautiful views of Peter Island, etc. Might want to check out that one too, before making your decision. It is on the Coral Bay side, and we enjoyed driving to Cruz Bay, seeing the views, the ocean, the mountains, the goats, the people. Nice diachotomy, between Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. Beaches are inbetween, and some even quite and private ones, outside Coral Bay.

MY WIFE AND I HAVE STAYED AT SPYGLASS HOUSE SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. WE CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK. IT IS OUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME---DON'T WE WISH. THE HOUSE HAS THE MOST FANTASTIC VIEW OF SEVERAL ISLANDS FROM THE DECK AND OCEAN VIEWS FROM ALL ROOMS. WITH ALL THE GREAT BEACHES ON THE ISLAND WE FIND A SWIMMING POOL KIND OF UNNECESSARY AFTER BEING AT THE BEACH ALL DAY. BUT COME EVENING WE LAY AROUND IN THE HUGE SPA ON THE DECK AND WATCH FOR SHOOTING STARS AND WATCH THE LIGHTS ON THE OTHER ISLANDS GO OUT AS THE DAY ENDS. RELAXATION AND ROMANCE AT IT'S BEST HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PART OF OUR SPYGLASS EXPERIENCE. THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY---DESTINATION ST JOHN HAS ALWAYS BEEN VERY HELPFUL WHENEVER WE NEEDED ANYTHING WHICH IS VERY RARE BECAUSE THE HOUSE IS FULLY EQUIPPED WITH ALL YOU NEED. PLUS YOU HAVE PLENTY OF PRIVACY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NO HOMES IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY---AT LEAST 3LOTS AWAY ON THE SOUTH AND NONE ON THE NORTH AND THE VALLEY AND OCEAN VIEW IN FRONT OF YOU TO THE EAST. SORRY THIS IS SO LONG WINDED---WE CAN'T HELP OURSELVES.HOPE THIS HELPS. JAKE
