Great photos, Jeff - thanks for sharing! My husband and I are enjoying our new digital toy here in the islands - the beautiful colors of the water never cease to amaze me!

Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed taking them. My wife thinks I'm a nut with the whole picture taking routine; you know---walk down there and turn around, stand up here, stand up straight, smile, etc....LOL. But the pictures are my trophies. I get them enlarged and hang them on the walls throughout the house.

Catherine,
I couldn't tell you the exact water temperature---I have no idea. I can tell you it was a little cool when you first get in until you get the water above the shoulder line, then you're fine. It's wonderful and you don't want to get out!

Thanks Jeff for your reply. I just read a memo from somebody here (I mean on this site) who says that the temp of water is about 85 ° F.
I make the translation in celcius degrees and I think it is more warm than cool as you say. But maybe Texan people are more sensitive to the cold than Frenc ones ;o).
By the way, is it easy and free to put your personal picture in the website as you did ?
Hello to you and to your wife from an admirer of American people !

Yeah Catherine,
I'm somewhat cold-natured so my water preference might be a little warmer than most. Relax and believe me that the water is fine. Are you going to STT soon?

Yes it's free to put up the pictures. My wife did it so I'll have to ask her how. It's supposed to be relatively easy.

Thanks Jeff and Leigh, for the photos. I can't wait! Just 9 more days 'till my husband and I have our turn. (Coral Cove at Sapphire Beach, for us)

Weather Underground's Marine forcast
http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/AM/730.html
shows that the water temp was 82 to 85 degrees, today. As you said, Jeff, for us cold natured types, that's cool until you're in a while, and then it's almost bathtub-like.

We've had great weather in the San Antonio area (I cleaned the koi pond, Sunday, and the air was 86, and the alternative plumbing I used got the pond water up to 80 with the help from the sun), but it's not the same without the clear blues of the sky and water and the white sand. I remember the morning we spent at Magan's bay in 2001: every blue there ever was was "out there" at once.

Hi jeff,

Ok I will put my pictures aften I am back in France and ask everyone here on vinow to look at them if they want. But first at all, I have to wait more than 3 weeks to go to the USA.
I planed a trip from 4th to 20th in Florida. Friends of mine live in Jupiter, closed to Palm Beach and I will spend some days by them (I call them my American parents because they were my host family during one month about 10 years before);
As the weather will not be so much good in Florida in Feb. (better than in Nancy east of France where I am living), we will have a week vacation in a sunshine island of Carabbean. That is because I love american way of life so much that I decided a trip to a USVI.
As of today, I hesitate and I really do not know in which hotel I have to reserve a room...we are 4 with 2 kids aged 10 and 8.
EBR looks good but your report were not. Sapphire looks good too but a litte more expensive and too snob to my mind.
Waiting for advices

Whew, I just don't seem to be able to shed my negative image associated with my review of Emerald Beach Resort...

Catherine,
Let me reiterate my position. Emerald Beach Resort is not super-horrible. It just looks a little run down and it could use a fresh coat of paint (inside and out) to make the place a little more appealing. There are a couple of other things that could use improvement but that's the biggest issue. I simply reviewed it as I experienced it. People see things differently than others and I just posted my opinions about EBR to let others make their own choices. If one has very high standards then EBR will not meet their expectations. However, if your needs aren't so demanding and you already have a reservation and got it at a good price then EBR will be adequate for your needs and you'll save a lot of money vs. paying a much higher price staying elsewhere. As you can see from my pictures, I went to 6 beaches on 3 islands within 8 days so I didn't sit in woe over EBR's shortfalls. There's plenty to do and plenty of places to spend your money elsewhere in the VI's. By no means did EBR ruin my trip in the least. It has good things about it too.

regards from Texas,
Jeff

Jeff,

My reservation has not been done....I do not know what I have to do...but if I wait more the risk is that EBR could be full and I have to search another place.
It is 20 minutes past midnight richt now. I am a little bit tired. Tomorrow is saturday so I do not have to go to the office but have to wake up anyway to bring kids to school anyway.
Maybe it is better to pass a night, and to take my decision tomorrow.

You are so kind to explain that your point of view can be different than another. With your help I know (if I reserve at EBR) that the hotel is great because directly on the beach but it is not a palace. But I am not a queen, Denis my husband is not the king and our kids are not princes. We are very simple people and I am sure we will enjoy being there together. And we do not mind if the wall need to be repaint and something to be fixed.

I just want to say "thank you -merci beaucoup- to you and all people, including Islander, for all the answers and lot of information I receive.

A good night on that, and my decision tomorrow.

Best regards from Nancy-France
