This may be a really dumb question, but I have tried to research this on the internet without success, so I am resorting to the expertise of the folks on this forum. We are preparing for our first visit to St. John in May. However, one thing I really want to do in my lifetime is visit the bioluminescent bay on Vieques. Since we will be in the general vicinity, how feasible is it to combine that with this trip? Caring for my ailing mom, we are not able to travel often and have to pack in as much as time will allow. Thanks!

You can charter a boat and do it overnight or for the day. Overnight is too cool. We have a few boats who specialize in the Spanish Virgins. Email me .....

There might be some small airlines that fly from St. Thomas to Vieques. Check Air St. Thomas, Vieques Air Link (I don't think they fly to STT though), or other small airlines in the phone book. If all else fails, you can also fly to Vieques via St. Croix or San Juan on Cape Air.

Try airsunshine.com. I used them last spring STT-VQS , $85 OW. They leave STT at 8:30 and 4:00, return 10:00 and 5:15. I stayed in Esperanza at the Tradewinds, a funky little guesthouse for about $75. The bio-bay is one memory I'll never forget, (make sure you get in the water to do snow angels and spit! ) as is driving a scooter around Vieques to some abandoned beaches... get there before it's ruined. One night there is plenty, remember they don't take trips out on or the day before/after a full moon.

We were in St John first week of Dec at Francis Bay. The water and sand had the bioluminescent glow late at nite. Check it out if you can't get to Vieques. I stayed 4 nites in Vieques but never got to see the lights- must have been the weather. It's a cool place to visit, though.

Hi, We were married on Gibney Beach St John in August 2004, and also experienced bioluminescent in the water and on the sand at that time (around 10 pm)

Really, CJ and Pia? That's the first I've heard of it on St. John. I wonder if anyone else has experience this?

I've seen it at Cinnamon and Maho but NOTHING like Vieques, that's like swimming in the stars, bioluminescence on STJ is like seeing a firefly here and there. Cool still!
