Yep, great local food. Try the Yellowtail. Yummy! Sub-base is it's location. Lessee, how to describe getting there....when you are coming out of the airport, one stoplight EAST of the airport turnoff stoplight, is a little turn off, and, as soon as you go SOUTH on it, you have to immediately turn either EAST or WEST. Go EAST (Right) until you see a building on your right that starts with a wreck shop. When you are even with the bar with the green railings, which is on your right, go left, which is SOUTH again. Follow this road around, keep going, when you say to yourself, "Is this really the way to go?" keep going some more, it's just around the next curve. There are some signs, and they help a little. 'Zat sound about right, guys? But, another great way to go is to have a taxi take you the first time, then you will know for sure for the next time you go! Haha! Enjoy!

Yeah! it is now called "victor's NEW hideout".I have been there and really enjoyed the local food. I went right after Clinton went and the still had red, white and blue decorations on "his table".

I highly recommend!

Sorry everyone, but I must dissent regarding Victor's Hideout.

My husband and I had dinner there just last night, and I have to say it was the worst meal we have had on this island (STT) after living here for nearly a year. The conch chowder was a few pieces of conch in a tasteless, starchy broth. My husband’s salmon was overcooked (and in a very average-tasting onion sauce), and my ginger pork chops were dry and tough and not very tasty.

We have heard great things about this restaurant and were extremely disappointed. Perhaps they have new personnel working in the kitchen, or perhaps their regular chef was off last night.

I did find it rather odd that there were only four other tables occupied besides ours on a Saturday night.

Wow, that's not something that I've ever heard from someone eating here. Sorry for your bad experience. Mine have always been good. Did the manager offer any explanation? Any compensation?

BTW, in my directions, when I say "go EAST (right)", it should say "go WEST (right)". Oops! Didn't have the compass in my head calibrated correctly when I was typing! haha!

I would not eat salmon at Victor's Hidout as much as I wouldn't eat conch at Craig and Sally's. If you had tried an ole wife or yellow tail I am sure your experience would be different. As far as the pork chops, unfortunately West Indian style is cooked dry as could be and not that appealing! Doubt I would have ordered the conch chowder as well, maybe some goatwater?

Hi Marty,

We did not complain. We just paid our bill and chalked it up to experience.

As I said, we were shocked. My husband and I really enjoy the excellent dining scene on STT, and we try it all from the upscale restaurants to the roadside food stands.

This is the first time that we have ever had a bad meal. I was actually starting to believe that it was impossible to find one.

So maybe they were just having problems in the kitchen that night........................................

Hi Marty,
This restaurant has been very highly recommended for my daughter's wedding reception by a friend who lives in St Thomas. I can't seem to find a single picture of the place and I am very nervous just booking sight unseen. What is the atmosphere? Do you possibly have any pictures? I hear food is excellent but noone comments on the building itself..
Any helpful advise would be graciously accepted.
Thanks,
Cathy Large
