I am planning on having a wedding down in VI--St. Thomas or St. John--in April 2006. I have not decided whether to use one of the resorts (Marriott Frenchmans Reef, Westin St. John, or the Wyndham Sugar Bay) or an independant wedding planner. It is going to be a realtively small wedding (20-30 guests) ... I am planning on having the ceremony followed by a dinner / reception with an "island" (calypso) band. Does anyone have any thoughts / recommendations as whether to use one of the resorts or wedding coordinators, and / or the above mentioned resorts. Any advice or helpful hints would be very much appreciated!!! Thank you!
We had ours on STT last August...used www.perfectweddingsofstthomas.com (Leslie Thomas-Dawson). EVERYTHING turned out great! Our pics were done by Eric Johnson (great photos and great price!) www.paradisepictures.vi
We stayed at the Wyndham (didn't do all-inclusive) and got married at St. Peter's Mountain Greathouse overlooking Magen's Bay. We had looked at getting married at the Marriott or Wyndham but the Wyndham's beach is small but they're gazabo on the roof is cool. We had the HARDEST time getting info out of the people at the Marriott and trying to set things up. Some people have had luck but we didn't!
We both work full time and Leslie was so helpful and we we able to pick out some stuff here and she had it down there (like the tux for example). I did bring my dress down on the plane though.
Hope this helps and feel free to ask me anything!
Amanda
Just returned from my daughter's wedding in STT, so will try to give you some info.
Bands: We used Phil Robinson for the band - he was great. We listened to AhWe which was great, but we didn't want only island music.
Venues:We had our rehearsal dinner for around 80 at Coral World - it is a wonderful venue and would be a possibility for a wedding - we had full use of the park after they close at 6pm -
In addition to the obvious places, Ritz, Marriott, Wyndahm, Oceana would also be a great spot. If the group is small, Old Stone Farmhouse is a possibility and the chef, Brian Katz does catering at some historic sites in town. The Greathouse is another possibility and there is a good caterer who works with "Villa Botanica". If I had only 20 or 30, I would rent a villa that permits weddings (would choose STJ over STT) and use one of the many caterers.
Flowers: I gather that there are a number of good florists - we used Filipe at Silk Geenery and he did a very nice job.
