Hello all,
I saw a news story that the BVI's will start to implement a public smoking ban at the end of May. Are there smoking restrictions on the USVI side (restaurants, particularly)?
Thanks in advance.
no, but I wish there was.
Thanks, Terry.
Regretfully, even in the tobacco metropolis of Kentucky, they have banned smoking in restaurants and bars. Its all over the US. We are looking forward to the old, familiar feeling of being able to enjoy a meal followed by a smoke without having to step outside. Paradise should be for everyone, even smokers.
Greetings. saw a sign in the BVI's yesterday in regards to the new "No Smoking" regulation/law. It said, "Effective 31 May 2007, No Smoking is allowed in Closed Public Spaces and Work Spaces".
hey all...
there has been a smoking ban in ireland for nearly 2 years now and suprisingly it has worked really well! (in a nation where laws and regulations are seen as more a set of 'guidelines'!)
since the ban came in people have noticed they are smoking less on a night out ,cause they have to get up for every cigarrette...also there is the new phenomena of 'smirting' that's sweeping the smoking areas and beer gardens throughout the nation. (smirting: chatting and flirting with people you meet outside the pub/club when having a smoke-every cloud has a silver lining aye??!!)
the only real complaint is having to go outside in the freezing weather and lashing rain before sparking up but sure guess this won't be an issue in the VI!!

I do not believe they have banned smoking in restaurants and bars in Kentucky, but yes they did in Ohio.
USVI is a smoker's paradise, particularly when coming here from areas with restrictive policies. Most restaurants have a common sense approach to it; if the dining room is inside, don't expect to smoke at the table, you'll need to go the bar area or outside. If the setting is al fresco, you can usually smoke at the table. If one is really easily annoyed by smoking, use extra vigilance when being seated in a restaurant...
Don't know about the rest of Kentucky, but the City of Louisville in Kentucky does have a smoking ban in all enclosed, public spaces, including bars and restaurants, offices etc. It seems to be working ok.
The law that exists now in the USVI is that 70% of the restaurant has to be non smoking. Hardly enforced, it is the law. Most sensible restaurants are now not allowing smoking at all.
