The plan to runaway sans spouse for 2-3 days by myself to the VI is still on the drawing board. Airfares are coming down and business is looking up.

I have found another inexpensive place for lodging that looks quite promising from a "all I need is a bed to sleep in" point of view, but I wonder if the VI vets have input on the place and the location.
Clickie here - and let me know.

Hey Ed,

I didn't mention the JR before since it doesn't sit on a beach, rather it's at West End. Beyond the JR itself (a great eating and drinking establishment), there is nothing within walking distance other than Soper's Hole (a hike) and it's Pusser's, numerous shops and a substantial mooring field. The nearest beach is a 15 min drive to Apple Bay, Long Bay or Smuggler's Cove, all on the North Shore (the other side of the island from the JR). On the plus side, the WE Ferry Dock / C&I are a only few yards down the road.

As far as the quarters at the JR go, I've read that they are your basic Tortola Chic...clean & spartan (the pictures tell the tale). Steer clear of the unit that sits above the Pizza oven (on the west side of the building), for obvious reasons.

Far more bang for the buck at Rymer's, Ivan's or Neptune's as you'll have no need to travel to a beach unless you want to go to another. If you get shut-out on the beach options, JR would work well but transportation will be needed ($50/day for a jeep).

Glad to hear that you're still looking to go.

Dave

My fav restaurant on Tortola!! You would need to rent a car for your time there...I agree with the other options..I believe something cheap in Cane Garden Bay would suit you perfectly..I have a suggestion..will PM you..

That's why I love VInow 🙂

As of a few weeks ago Rymers and Ivans had nothing available - but, of course, I could check back in January or February.

Still looking to come back down. The draw is strong....

It gets to be obsessive. Seems like when I get home from a trip, I'm trying to plan something right away to get back to the islands.

I have nothing planned now and I'm so sad :o(

we have guest rooms right above sapphire beach that rent for 100-120 a night if you are interested. You can walk to the beaches or catch the Safari bus to Red Hook, Tutu or to town.

PM me if you want more info or pictures.

Ed

Here's a link to a very cheap, very basic place at Josiah's Bay, Tortola. It's a decent beach with food options so you woldn't have to travel until you wanted a change of pace.

I have some more cheap Tortola accom links at home and I'll pass them along later.

Ed, check out Hillcrest Guesthouse and St. John Inn, both in Cruz Bay STJ. Hillcrest just posted 20% discounts for new bookings. St. John Inn has some rooms in your range with a variety of availability.

I've done the quick-in-and-out before and the transit time becomes a bigger factor. You can get to STJ after a late flight without dealing with customs. Another option ($$) is a charter flight from SJU to Anegada. Neptunes or Cow Wreck would be sweet. For that matter, staying at Secret Harbor or Saphire would be nice as well.

I tend to hit STJ and stay in Cruz Bay at the Tamarind Court for short trips. After our last noisy stay at the Tamarind I'm looking for a change.

Cheers, RickG
