We have verizon wireless, I thought i saw somewhere that people had problems with verizon in St John. Can anyone tell me if we will have trouble with our cell phones talking or texting? I know we need to call the owner of the Villa when we land in St Thomas, and when we leave St Thomas on the ferry to go to St John. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂
We were on St John at Christmas and Verizon works but there is a good possibility it will pick up a cell tower from BVI and you'll pay roaming charges. We made 5 calls and got hit with roaming charges on all of them (as I recall the extra on the bill was $30). Several of the calls were made on the ferry on the way across. The calls we made from St Thomas were fine. One of our party had an ATT phone and they had no extra charges for the calls they made while on St John. A small price to pay to visit paradise!!!!!
Ok, Thank you.. I guess i'll just make the calls I need to from St Thomas and not on the ferry.. There is a computer with internet at the Villa were staying at so I think I'll tell our 19 year old to use e-mail to communicate for the week.. Thanks again for the info !
My Droid incredible was good only for texting. VI internet too slow for HTC. A call I made in Puerto Rico cost me $15.92 for7 min. Ouch. Also Tracfone are no longer any good in VI. Use a different co.
Verizon roams EVERYWHERE in the USVI. $1.99 per minute voice and $.50 per text if I recall correctly. Sprint and AT&T both act like local stateside phones.
We bought an ATT go phone and took it with us. Never had a problem. We left our phones and home and didn't worry about losing it on the island. If we lost the GO phone, we were only out $60.
We had an ATT internet hookup at the villa too and it worked fine.
Thanks everyone, i think we'll get the go phone also.
