Some clips from my trip 😀 Yes I know it's blurry and shaky, and yes I know you can't go from FTL to STT on AA (we took the limo down to MIA and flew out the next day, and yes the return trip stopped at SJU so that is the departure airport) and yes there is a little of the Florida Everglades at the end, but let me tell you......... THIS WAS A BLAST!!! 😎 😎 😎 Can't wait to return soon!!! STT - STX - SJU - MIA 🙂 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoDxEwatNK8&feature=g-upl&context=G217c1c3AUAAAAAAAAAA

Thanks for sharing your video. What camera and editing software did you use?

Hi blaze,

The camera is the GoPro Hero2. Great camera, but first time user errors, lol. It was my first time using it and I found out the hard way it is meant to be mounted on something and 99% of the time I was holding it in my hand. I already have the GoPole stick thing on order to help stabalize more 😎

Um, as for editing software, well, I haven't done this in about 4 years. I do have Premiere still, but it was taking too long to remember how to use it. I went with the basic Windows Movie Maker because it was easy and on my older computer. Great little program, but I was shooting in 1080 and I have an older computer so you really have to find ways to manipulate to avoid crashing, lol.

Lots of little mistakes learned but I'm sure I'll have a much better one next year 😎

Thank you so much for the video. I have visited all kinds of web sites but your single video provided a better picture of St. Thomas than all the other sites combined. Awesome! Will be there April 10 for 7 days. Can hardly wait!

In the STX portion of the video I think I saw the Buccaneer and I know I saw Sandcastles/Beachside Cafe. Did you stay at either one?
We're returning to Sandcastles for our third stay there in 5 1/2 weeks.

Hi Bassman, actually stayed at HTOC, but went to the Sunday brunch at Sandcastle! Let me put it this way, when we DO COME BACK to STX next year at least 3 or 4 nights will be at Sandcastle! Loved that place for the few hours we got to visit it! It was just so calm and cool! Oh and I'm sure we drove by the Buc on the way to Point Udall, but did not stop there.

just4steven,

I loved the video. Thanks for sharing it with us. Last year I spent my annual week on St. Thomas, then took the seaplane to St. Croix for my first visit there. Your video provided lots of memories for me.

I will go to VI next week. I am interested in your last portion of the trip - seems like somkind of echo tour. Could you please tell me the exact name of the tour? Any phone # that I can reserve the tour in advance? Is it in St Croix? What does MIA stands for? Thanks in advance!

Um, I believe that was the part in the Florida Everglades, about 1100 miles away from St Thomas and St Croix. It was really cool if you are ever in the Miami area (MIA = Miami Airport), but you will love the VI much more! I forget all the tours, we pretty much just drove, but I know there is Tan Tan Tours on STX.

Agreed. boat loads of talent in the VI. Both videos, filmed "on location" definitely capture a VI vibe.

Wow I love both of those videos! Thanks for sharing! I needed some more authentic virgin islands music to get me pumped this is perfect! Are there any CDs you can buy to support local talent when I'm there?

Nate, if you want to support local music, check out Music Shoppe II (I've never seen Music Shoppe I) in Havensight near the Delly Deck restaurant. You'll LOVE that store!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, it! They also sell carnival DVDs and instruments. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

If you're here on a Sunday, you might want to visit a church that has a steel pan "choir." You'll truly be in heaven when you hear the music.

Thanks for the tips on local music! That was my initial goal of what to use, but I did not purchase any while I was there and did not have any to use. I will get some though and use on my next trip! 😎

I just LOVE the clever word plays in Caribbean music (and the beats, and the melodies, and the ... well, all of it!). It is sooo much fun watching some of the bands during carnival parades, and how they get the crowd moving! When I think about all the time they volunteer to put on such an impressive spectacle of music and dance, I just can't help but be overwhelmed with appreciation.

I'll post videos from this year's carnival parade later this month, but only if you beg :-).

BTW, a few restaurants/bars have open mic at least one night a week. I think Tickles in Crown Bay does. It's always fun to see the local and visitors' talent, so if you've got some musical skills, you might want to look for other open mic opportunities.
