Hi,

I will be staying in St John this summer for a week. However, we will be flying into St Thomas, renting a car in St Thomas as well as getting a bulk of grocery shopping in St Thomas before we head over. Does anyone recommend a grocery store that is on the way to the Red Hook Ferry? We would prefer not to drive to Cost-U-Less since someone told us it is out of the way to Red Hook and we are on a time crunch to make the ferry.

Also, if anyone can recommend grocery stores for reasonable prices in St John as well that would be great!!!

Any other advice for St John (ie what beaches in St John to go to, activities, etc.) would be AMAZING! This is our first trip to the USVI and we want to make it a memorable one!

Thank you so much for your time.

Emily

Costuless is not out of the way to Red Hook - ask the rental car office for a map and directions.

Do you know how far Costuless is from the airport? And then how far it is to the ferry? We have 3 hours to arrive, get our car, grocery shop and catch the last ferry of the day in St Thomas.

Costuless is half way to the ferry. Red Hook is about a 10 mile drive from the airport. Ask the rental car office for a map and directions.

CostULess is in Market Square East on Route 38 which is easy to find. When you come out of CostULess you simply continue on Rte 38 all the way into Red Hook. It's EASY and you'll have ample time.

go to cost you less. It is right on the way. Tell your rental car agency that you are going to St. John. THEY MAY NOT ALLOW THIS. If they do then get them to show you where cost u less is. And as said before it is RIGHT on the way.

If you miss the car barge there will be another in a hour. So it is not big thing.

We just returned from St. John. Never would have noticed the Pine Peace Market but it was admired by all the previous renters of our condo who mentioned it in the "guest book". We found them to be reasonable in price and loved the "local" atmosphere. Always welcoming and nice. We made sandwiches each day for our daily excursions. We ate out most of the time,,,,,2 for $5 fish tacos at Spyglass were our favorite. Also LOVED Uncles Joe's BBQ. We ate at Ms.Lucys on the Coral Bay side and it was outstanding. I thought because I was in paradise that we would have to "eat in". But we didn't...we found Happy Hour drinks and dinner every night. We didn't feel like we broke the bank eating out. By the way, am MISSING St. John already.

For beach advice, this website has a great resource. Go to the top of this page and just above the advertising banners hover your mouse over the St. John bar. Click on beaches from the menu that appears. Speaking of the advertising banners, one of the advertisers is the guidebook Off the Beaten Track by gerald singer. I highly recommend this book. You can see some of the books content on Gerald Singer's website www.seestjohn.com

We went to several beaches on St. John. My favorite was Jumbie Bay -- it's small and not well marked on the road, but there were fewer people there than at other beaches. Enjoy your vacation.
