We travel to STT every year, and just got back from a 17 day trip... weather was great -- hot tho. We stayed at a villa (made breakfast every morning and took sandwiches and drinks to the beach -- ). We shopped at Marina Market in Red Hook - high-quality food and great steaks. We went to Magens (on the days that there weren't 2 ships in (or on Sunday - no ships at all), Sapphire and Coki Point. Snorkeling is great at Coki - but some of the locals get a bit rowdy around 4ish. We ate dinner 3 times at Romano's -- food is awesome and a little pricey but well worth it. The owner, Tony Romano is also an artist and has many pieces offered for sale. I've eaten at many of the better restaurants in STT, and I can honestly tell you that Romano's is the best. We ate at Agave last year and I was a little disappointed -- they do have a nice view tho. The Greenhouse (downtown), and Gladys Cafe are both good for lunch, as is Cafe Amici. We went to Fungi's again and I was a little disappointed -- food portions seemed much smaller than I remember. Molly Malone's is good for a casual night - and they have great Margarita's. I rented a car for the first time - you get really used to driving on the left -- you just have to remember to go slow around the curves and KEEP LEFT! It's really worth it to rent a car - you don't have to pay so much in cab fare and you can come and go as you please. Rate was $260 for a week - full size car (Avis). I got a flat tire the day I was leaving -- called Avis -- and someone came (in 30 minutes believe it or not) and repaired the tire (at Avis' expense) . The locals in STT do not use the route numbers (although all the routes are marked) - they use landmarks, so make sure you take your map w/you and directions before you go somewhere. We also went to STJ 4 times -- went to Trunk Bay (buy a pass if you plan on going there more than once -- it's less expensive and it's good for a year). Also went to Leinster Bay (saw sea turtles) to snorkel. It's nice, but quite a hike from where the cab drops you off. We also went to The Baths in Virgin Gorda and "hiked" thru the caves to reach Devil's Bay -- well worth it -- caves are fabulous. We just took a ferry there (not a tour). Cab fare to The Baths was $18 (for 3 people). Eat before you go to The Baths -- there's not too many places to eat there. You can get better prices on jewelry on the days that there are not too many ships in. Just ask - they will bargain with you (but not Cardows or Little Switzerland). I brought back the max in liquor -- packed it in my suitcase with that cushy Rubbermaid shelf-liner -- and every bottle was intact. Feel free to ask any questions in case I missed something. I miss STT already and believe it or not, cried on the airplane!

Aw, I wanted to cry on the plane home too. The only reason I was glad to be going home was because I was anxious to see my dogs..I missed them so much. 😉

great tips!

The only thing that helps me leave is knowing I'll be coming back. I used to cry when we left Maui. I know I'll be back so no tears are needed. Now I have to add STT to my list of return trips!
