I am thinking of heading to St. John for spring break this year. I have never been to the USVI before and am not sure what to expect. I plan on staying at a hostel at Coral Bay (Sweet Plantain) and an curious if anyone has been there before? Is Coral Bay overrun with tourists? Is there any nightlife? How are the locals? Any information you can give will help
thanks
P

From the viewpoint of an older person, I'd say that Coral Bay would be a very unlikely spot for young people to spend spring break. It is VERY quiet with little to no night life. Some of the bars/restaurants will have live music, but lively -- not so much. And last time we were there, by 9:30 or 10 everybody'd gone home to bed.

But maybe you want something outside the typical spring break experience.

from another viewpoint of another older person, you will need a car in the coral bay area, also if you are on limited funds, Cruz Bay has excellent small inns, B&B'S within walking distance of nightlife, plus you can take the ferry to ST Thomas for a day trip. If you want spring break party time, perhaps STT would be to your liking. This forum is volumes of info on the islands, plus island residents are fabulous with their advice and safety tips. Scroll through the many pages of advice from past visitors and islanders. At the top of the page, click on individual islands to a list of topics. Spring break is around the corner, good luck
