According to some Internet sources, we just had Virgin Islands Thanksgiving Day on Sunday, October 17 (or it is possibly today, Thursday, October 21). Then there is United States Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, November 25. Is the former for the end of hurricane season? Doesn't hurricane season run through November?

According to www.gotostcroix.com, we have 50 official holidays here in 2004, including Bastille Day and Summer Solstice Day. Is the former celebrated in Frenchtown? The latter could be celebrated every day. I'm worn out just reading about all this partying.

Hello Former OhioGuy,

We have one Thanksgiving Day as in the official "turkey day".

The other Thanksgiving Day is Hurricane Thanksgiving Day. Yes Hurricane season runs until Nov. 30th however we don't typically get storms in Nov. so once through August, September we give thanks for getting through, as those two months are the most active.

Bastille Day is not an official holiday. It is celebrated and there is a week called French Hertitage Week which occurs around Bastille Day. There are celebrations in both Frenchtown and Northside. Read about it at:

https://www.vinow.com/news/jun03/bastilleday.php

Summer Solstice is not a holiday. I believe there are 21 official holidays including VI and US holidays.

Well, it looks like I've been misled.

I don't know what their definition of "official" is, but all of these can't be government and bank holidays.

Hello Former OhioGuy,

I think that is why official is in " ".

In anycase I am pretty sure these are the official gov't ones:

New Years Day
Three Kings Day
Martin Luther King's Birthday
Presidents Day
Transfer Day
Holy Thursday
Good Friday
Easter Monday
Memorial Day
Organic Act Day
Supplication Day
V.l. Emancipation Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day / Puerto Rico-USVI Friendship Day
Hurricane Thanksgiving Day
Liberty Day or D. Hamilton Jackson Day
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
Christmas 2nd Day

There was a bill in front of Senate several years ago to get rid of Holy Thursday, Easter Monday, Supplication Day, Organic Act Day and Hurricane Thanksgiving Day as official government holidays and just make them observed days... not sure what ever came of that.

(and then things pretty much shut down for the Carnival Parades 🙂

Man, I know that I work for the gov't here (city) and have a lot of holidays off - but this is unbelievable! Next time Beloved gives me crap for having Flag day off (which I don't) I'll let him know about this!
