We're working on our destination wedding for St. Croix in May 2015. We're pretty well decided on Pyramid Point (near the Buccaneer), and plan to use it for the wedding. Here's what we don't know: Shoys Beach is adjacent to the property and is free for us to use during our stay. We'd like to have the wedding reception on the beach. Do I need to "reserve" the beach area? Do I need any kind of special permit or such?

Thanks in advance!

No, you don't need a special permit but I'd definitely suggest using a wedding planner to help facilitate the festivities and pick up your wedding license, etc. It's hard to take care of all the details from off island and the wedding coordinators are very good at what they do and will work with your budget, however large or small it may be. You may find this link from the St Croix Tourism board helpful:

A wedding planner would also know what permits were required, if any.
You could also check with DPNR, Fish & Wildlife or National Park re: permits.
I am not familair with the beach on STX so can't say whether you'd need a permit or not.

Thanks very much. We do have a wedding planner, and she feels confident it can be done without a permit. But it's nerve wracking planning from so far away! 🙂

Good news that you have a planner - now leave all those details up to her because that's what you've hired her to do! The permitting doesn't affect you as it relates to property falling under the NPS. Now sit back and relax - and enjoy a wonderful wedding in May!

Well then if you have a planner she should find out, definitively, one way or the other out by calling the appropriate gov. entities as mentioned above. That is her job. She can't just feel confident, she needs to know one way or the other. All it'll take is a couple of phone calls.

However "reserving the beach" does not restrict it's use by others.
