Hi all.. I'm already checking for air for my trip next May. Right now the fare on USAir is $501 Phl to STT. I'm thinking I can do better but I also recall some postings about getting vouchers when a fare went down? Is that true? Has anyone done that with USAir flights?

Thanks.

I do it with USAir all the time. I hope they still honor this program next year. You never know.

Historically, in my experience, May fares run $238 to $450. Your best chance is to book a weekday departure and return (Tue, Wed, Thu)...as weekends tend to be a little more expensive. The "no fee" voucher only works if the fare goes down for you EXACT itinerary. If the fare is lower on another day and you want to switch to that day, you pay a penalty to switch ($75 or $100, I forget which).

$501 isn't TOO bad....I would book it and keep an eye on it.

We’re going down in May on USAir, also from Philly. We found some slightly cheaper fares from the NY/PA area but they all involved changing planes in San Juan, which we always try to avoid. I was shocked to discover that I was able to score two tickets with frequent flyer miles – and at the basic reward level, not premium. Did this with United miles through the Star Alliance program. You can’t do it online, you have to call and I almost didn’t go to the trouble for what I was sure would be a waste of time. But don’t overlook that option if you have some miles to use on one of the partner airlines.

I did it for our last trip which was just this past last week of June.
We had 4 tix that I booked last Nov. since I had enough miles for 2 vouchers. The other 2 fairs were $832 apiece! It dropped to $313 in May and I received 2 vouchers for the difference. Unfortunately I can't use them next June because they are good for 1 year from issue. They can only be used for the person whose name is on the ticket.
I was also told you can't do this on-line, you must basically go to the Philly airport and book your ticket with the voucher in person at USAir.

"I was also told you can't do this on-line, you must basically go to the Philly airport "

Or, you can go the the Philadelphia USAir ticket counter downtown - in the Center Square (better known as the "Clothespin building)Building at 15th and Market. If you work downtown, this is better than going all the way to the airport and paying to park there.

But, KSg Domer is right, you cannot book online using vouchers.
