Here are some new photos of the house being built over Platform beach, which is a heavenly little, quiet sandpocket to the right of Magens Bay and out far on the peninsula. Until recently, you had to access it via water or via a relatively short, but dense path from Peterborg.

This beach area is the same area where the "Caribbean White House"....aka Sand Dollar Estate sits. Sand Dollar Estate is where the Clintons would vacation and this stretch is where you saw photos of the Clintons on the beach and in the water when they were on STT. Of course, the Sand Dollar home is above that piece of the beach area, but that home sits higher up.

I know I posted here ... but it is gone. I see all 8 also, and I politely corrected the name from Herbert to Hebert.

Suzette,

You did post here. I remember seeing your post. You're not suffering from some form of dimentia...LOL

Islander posted in an announcement on top of the message list that they just completed a server upgrade and unfortunately posts made between, I believe 2 pm and 8 pm have been lost.

Thanks for posting the pictures. I really enjoyed them. You are very good at photography. and are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful place. They are so nice to see, to help me hang on until I can return.

Bluwater yes great photos! That platform house looks like another erected concrete monument of conspicuous consumption that is totally out of step with the environment or good taste! It's too bad the Virgin Islands cannot control this type of development.

Hi guys. I do not live there and I didn't tkae ANY of these photos. 😉

A friend who owns a home over this new monster home took the "before" photos of the beach. A friend who lives on another part of the island, but was recently boating in this area, took the photos of the new home.

You are right about one thing - I am lucky!! Lucky to have two friends on the island with whom i share many good tiems when i visit. 🙂

Bluwater....I wouldn't recommend nude sunbathing on this beach any more.

Blu, I just don't understand why anybody would ever build something so close to the water. First bad storm and that thing is gone...don't you think?

Connie,

Not necessarily.

I believe....

The water in Magens Bay flows into the Bay in such a way that it comes in on the opposite side (the homes on the far side of the Bay take the water accessing from the sea ...I have seen those waves crashing after a storm......then the water flows into the beach area, then exits the Bay on the side where this house is. So, the water in front of this house comes from the beach area, not the open sea.

I have noticed this when I float in the water off of the beach in front of this home....I float out towards the mouth of the Bay, and the current is very noticeable. It doesn't feel dangerous or like it would drag you down....but if you just float, you move very quickly into the direction of the entrance of the Bay.

Hey Blu, I was at Platform last week! It is still beautiful. Water and beach. The house had continuous concrete being delivered. There was a lot of damage to houses on that side of Magens from hurricane Marilyn, but most was from the wind. We put back together the house above and to the left of the new house in your photos(and enjoyed swimming after work every day) You are right that the houses on the opposite side of Magens received a lot of water damage from Marilyn and Hugo.
