We are coming to St. Croix in July with three other families, staying at Cottages by the Sea, does the ferry only run onFri. Sat. Sun. and Mon. during July? Wanted to fly in to St. Thomas but not sure how to get over to St. Croix.
Don't take the ferry. I can be a very rough ride. Check into the seaplanes.
I have to agree, either book your flight to STX or take a sea plane from STT.
I may be mistaken but I have also heard that the ferry service sometimes doesn't run, so you might get stuck if they are down.
It is more difficult to connect to St Croix via St Thomas. The options for St Thomas to St Croix flights are either on Cape Air or Seaborne--both of which require you to collect your bags in St Thomas and recheck everything in for the connecting flight--including going through security again. The ferry is not reliable, and a really rough ride--they hand out vomit bags before the crossing starts. Also, since you are staying on the West End, the airport is closer to your hotel. So, taxi would be cheaper or picking up a a rental car would be easier going from airport to Cottages rather than Christiansted (where seaplane and ferry land) to Cottages.
Unless you have a necessary reason to go through St Thomas, try to get to St Croix directly with a connection in Miami or Puerto Rico. Miami is a more reliable connection and you fly in on a bigger plane which I prefer over the small turboprops that fly out of PR.
Regardless of how you get here, you'll have a great time at cottages! That is one of my favorite beaches on island and I'm usually there almost every other day with my two small dogs!:-)
Call Miles at Caribbean Sea Adventures in Christiansted, STX. Depending on your date and party size, he might take you one or both ways.
The St. Thomas - St. Croix present ferry schedule is only Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon, two trips each way. Always a good idea to double check the schedule close to the date you plan to use the ferry, to make sure things haven't changed. You can find the information including telephone number for the ferry on the Ferry Schedule page of the site.
The other options mentioned, Cape Air or Seaplane, both have websites, so you can check them out. http://www.flycapeair.com/ and http://www.seaborneairlines.com/.
