Has anyone cruised to Bermuda? We just got a great last-minute deal on a 7 day cruise from Boston on July 15. Now I'm not usually a cruise fan, but we couldn't pass up $549 per person for a week. Since it is so cheap, we can still make our now-annual trip to the islands in February. Am I going to be disappointed? I'll try not to compare to the USVIs and BVIs, but it will be difficult....
Thanks!!

I've never been, but I have friends who've been and LOVED it.
That is a good deal!!

You will not be disappointed with Bermuda!
I wish we could pull it's anchor and float it down to the Caribbean as it is very special. The homes, the flowers, the golf, the beaches, etc etc. It is expensive but so to is USVI and BVI.
Be sure to get the extended transportation pass! If I remember correctly you can use it on both the bus and ferry. At end of your stay give whats not used to a local. You will be able to see most everything using it and save lots of bucks. And I agree with NE you won't be disappointed.
New Englander....it's a gorgeous island and we never saw any poverty when we were there.
You'll love it!
We cruised to Bermuda and the Bahamas last summer on NCL. Bermuda was absolutely beautiful and nothing like any other island - it has its own charm. Avoid all the cruise ship day tours and plan your OWN day. After disembarking, purchase your bus tokens at the dock and head to Horseshoe Beach (if you want to visit a beautiful beach). Once you arrive there, it's a short hike down to the beach. Pass that very first beach on the left where every single cruise ship passenger seems to park themselves, climb some rocks (more like step oer them) or swim past them, and head to the third or fourth private little cove - it's worth the hike! As you sit on the pink coral beach almost in seclusion from the 2,000 people you just passed, or frolic in great body-boarding waves, you will realize that this is what it's all about.
After a couple hours at the beach, head back up to the road where taxi drivers will take you to the opposite end of the island where you are docked, into Hamilton. Be sure to talk to your taxi driver - ours was very friendly. Ask questions and you have your own personal tour guide!
There's some touristy shops in Hamilton, so be prepared for that (i.e., don't waste your money). Do stop at the local liquor store for some Gosling's rum to bring back to the ship. They will package it up for you and it will be at the ship waiting for you. Don't expect to be able to drink it on board, but you will be able to bring it home on the last day. That being said, we did find a way around this and were able to enjoy our light rum for a couple days til it ran out :*(
Bermuda doesn't compare to the Caribbean except that the people are super friendly. The houses are colorful and the roofs are all painted white. Crystal clear waters and the deep blue sky are permanently etched in my mind. Too bad you'll only have a day in Bermuda. I'd like to return someday, but there's nothing like the USVI!
Have a great trip.
Thanks for all of the great information! BiminiDr- I will put Horseshoe on the list. And, the cruise is 7 days and we have 3 1/2 in Bermuda- it is the only island we are visiting.
Thanks again everyone!

3.5 days in Bermuda would be absolutely fabulous! If you have that much time, you will become very familiar with the island and can probably squeeze in all that you want to do! As we were on the bus to Horseshoe Beach, we saw a few people who rented motor scooters and that looked like a blast! Then again, we had our 13 and 9 year old children with us, and I was a little scared after seeing a woman wipe out on her scooter.
FYI - I hated being a captive audience to $9 pre-measured drinks on board the ship. E-mail me if you want my advice about how to get your own spirits on board!

You will certainly not be disappointed with Bermuda. I have been to Bermuda several times, and this is my 20th year visiting the Virgin Islands, so I can speak to both. Basically, try to imagine Bermuda as a cleaner, "spiffier" version of St. Thomas. That is not meant as an insult to St. Thomas; that is just the way it is. British, so somewhat formal....certainly not as laid back as the Virgins. Make sure you spend time in the town of St. George. It is a little like comparing apples to oranges.........
Be sure to post and tell us what you thought of the cruise! Thanks!
Teresa
Wait, is this off topic & no one is complaining? LOL
Coco...i think it's on topic if somebody was to flot Bermuda to the Virgin Islands. At least it close enough :o) Sounds like a good idea to me. More months of warm weather in VI'S then where Bermuda is!
Good one Connie.. It must be my jealousy that I am NOT going on a cruise to Bermuda & a trip to USVI in the same year...or any year 🙂 But wasn't that Teresa asking for a trip report to Bermuda on the USVI board? LOL
Alright, alright.... Teresa, I will PM you when I get back. No trip report. 🙂
For the record, I would much rather be going to the VI's than Bermuda! I was just looking for a comparison of sorts.

NewEnglander,
Only kidding ya and giving Teresa a little poke for her Chesney complaint. Post your report..who knows maybe some of us will get to cruise to Bermuda.
I think the trip to Bermuda will do me some good- now I'm dreaming about members of this message board (see my "nuts" post...) 🙂
