HI All,

Just wondering how flights with United are? Are the pretty good about getting in on time and so on. We are flying out of DC....We were leaving on Sat July 21sf..but just today I gave us 2 extra days and now leaving Thursday July 19, non stop for same price. Any feed back would be great.

As far as I know right now no passport is needed for the VI's right?

That's correct...no passports if you're staying within a US territory.

United isn't bad...but you never know until the day of. The only delays I have experienced with them have been weather or mechanical-related.

We were scheduled to fly out of DC the week before Xmas on United. We chose DC because it $100 cheaper per person. Live 15 minutes from BWI. We had a 8 AM flight. At 9 PM they called & left a message that our plane was not going to leave on time due to pilots needing more rest time between flights! We would then not make our Philly connection to STT. They wanted us to come & get a 6 AM flight. We were on out at a party & said there was no way we were leaving at 3 AM to drive, park etc. We spent an hour but got them to change our flight to BWI at 8 AM. More time to party! On the return trip our flight left STT on time ( the one before us was 2 hours late!) We got to Charlotte & had an hour layover. While grabbing food we heard our gate was changed. Since we left our belongings on the plane, we raced to the old gate & everyones stuff was lying there. The attendant had us take our things..could of taken anything..at walked a mile to the new gate. Seems they combined several flights & we got home 2 hours later than expected. Not great...but hey it was the holidays & I spent all that time uploading my STT & STJ pics to my online albums reliving the great week. Good Luck!

If you go to www.flightstats.com you can look at historical flight info for any route. For example, here is the historical info for Dulles to STT...

http://www.flightstats.com/go/FlightRating/flightRatingByRoute.do?departureAirport=IAD&arrivalAirport=STT

If you scroll down it shows the various flights that fly that route and the historical on time rating.

FYI, if your flight goes through PHI or Charlotte, that is a USAir flight, not United. You may have been given a United flt #, but it is what is called a "codeshare".

RIchmond, Im not going through PHI or Charlotte. Im leaving on a non stop flight out of IAD and it is United because I booked straight from United airlines.

I've taken that flight twice, never had a problem. The plane goes from IAD-STT-SJU-IAD. So, if you are on a direct flight when you return, you will stop in SJU, but just to pick-up and drop off people. No plane change.

Richmond,

Yup, that is the exact flight that we are taking.....on the way back we stop in SJU for i think 50 mins with no plane change......I was picking my seats...both flights are almost full already. Do you live up near IAD?

Yep. Let's put it this way, when I have to pick-up someone at the airport, I tell them to call me when they get off the plane. Once they do, I go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, fix my face, check e-mail, leave for the airport, circle around twice, then VOILA, there is my pick-up. I'm that close.

If you take off from the east-west runway, you go over my house. Just look for twin water towers, I'm about 200 yards from those.

Destiny, where do you live?

Richmond,

I live in Norfolk, but since we are flying out of IAD on a Thursday morning and have to be there at least by 730am we would need to leave here really early so I was thinking about driving up Wednesday night and getting a hotel near the airport...any suggestions on a good airport?

You mean hotel? 😉 There are a ton of them, many that are pretty new and have shuttle service. They may even allow you to keep your car parked there so you can park for free.

Getting up here on a Wednesday is an EXCELLENT idea. Traffic is hell in this area in the morning. If you get in early enough, maybe we can meet up for a drink.

I'm in a big hurry to get to a neighbor's St. Patty's day party, I'll post some names and numbers tomorrow afternoon. (I'm willing to bet I'll be sporting a wicked hangover tomorrow morning)

If you are looking for a hotel near the airport that will let you park your car there while you are gone, go to

www.parksleepfly.com

They list many hotels that have rates for a room and parking. Good luck.

Destiny, I just checked the expedia.com site for area hotels, they're all pretty good. Why don't you check it out and when you find some places that have a rate you're happy with, PM me and I will let you know what I can to help you make your decision.

Oh, and pad some time before or after your trip to visit Wegman's, the best grocery store in the world! Blu will back me on this!
