Can anyone recommend a couple of stores in St. Thomas where I could buy an underwater digital camera?
I picked up an Olympus underwater camera for my wife last summer for snorkeling at Royal Caribbean in Havensite. It is good for 33 feet so I purchased an underwater housing for when we are scuba diving.
Hi VI Bound,
Can I ask how much the camera cost? I am going to be shopping for one as well. How did you like the photos it produced?
Thanks for your opinions!
I bought a great Olympus underwater camera at Boolchands in Havensight Mall. There prices are even better than our local Sam's club stateside.
Not sure if any stores sell them, but a personal favorite of mine is the Liquid Image underwater digital and video goggles. They cost less than $100 and if you add the memory card you can get up to 1-1/2 hours of video or up to 1800 photos. Quality is great, only big problem is when taking the video underwater you have to remember not to move too much or the video is jumping around a lot.

Sorry, can't recall how much it cost as we bought it along with a Nikon D30 for my son. The photographs are great both underwater as well as above. My wife has a ball with it. I will warn you however, any underwater camera with a built in flash does have it's limitations due to the nature of particles in the water etc. Like I said I have also purchased an underwater housing for it for when we scuba dive and have since picked up a slave flash which works off of the built in flash to improve colors and lighting for those underwater shots. She even got some great underwater videos of a dolphin that we spent about 45 minutes with.
We bought an Olympus stylus 770 - Waterproof without a housing to 33 ft and shockproof. Purchased 2007 - July - at Royal Caribbean. The shop and the camera were recommended by Red Hook Dive Center. It takes terrific pictures. I can email some of them or you can go on the Red Hook Dive Site and click on photo gallery. Look at "Garvey Family", "April and May 09", and Pat Kerschner. The dolphin photo is also mine. Also, Olympus stands behind their product. We are in St. Thomas if you have any questions.
