The official release ceremony for the U.S. Virgin Islands Quarter was today. It took place this morning at Emancipation Garden on St. Thomas. There were various speeches and lots of people, kids and teachers attending the historic day. Stay tuned for a Colors of Paradise TV Show on the event! Yes VInow was there covering the ceremony... and getting a quarter!
So... have you gotten your U.S. Virgin Islands Quarter yet? And how did you get it (change at the grocery store, bank, ordered it from the U.S. Mint...?)

Found two in my back pocket here in NC yesterday when I went to lunch. Maybe release was earlier up here. Is that little bump I see Water Island?
It must have been an earlier release in the states because I got one a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I don't know where I got it and I probably used it for change already.
Hey halfman & speedr1023, Yes the coin was released earlier, September 28th. The official ceremony in the USVI for the release however was yesterday (October 9th).

The Mint has been selling proof VI quarters for months, so I got one from ebay about two months ago. I'm trying to find a silver bezel and chain so I can wear it as a necklace.
Good Afternoon:
i was fortunate enough to obtain one - it was given to me last week as a gift.
Making into a necklace is a great idea, ms411.
Yes, there is a dot - for Water Island - I thought that was neat!!!

ms411 - great idea. I had wondered if any of the local jewelers would make pendants or charms with the quarters or with the quarters design. Have you seen anything like that in a store?

I don't think anybody's made jewelry from it yet, but the bezels aren't that expensive on ebay, I don't think. But, there's some reason why I don't have one, but can't remember now what the reason is. Maybe I couldn't find sterling silver in quarter size, or maybe I was waiting to get another coin so as not to lessen the value of the proof. I can't keep up with my own mind! :@)
Thanks Ms411. The quarter/design definitely seems like something some local jewelers would incorporate. If you see any quarter pendants or anything like that, let us know.
Anyone else find, receive, order a USVI quarter yet?
PS: The Colors of Paradise TV show about the official release ceremony is coming soon and it includes an interview with the Governor... the U.S. Mint Deputy Director.... AND one of our message board regulars! 😉 Stay tuned.

I went to Scotia Bank today to see the regular quarter (as opposed to the proof quarter I have). The proof is much nicer for jewelery, I think, so I'm going to order another one and a bezel. The proof I got had "cameo" in the description, so there's more contrast between the images and the background. Much brighter, too.
The episode on the Release Ceremony for the U.S. Virgin Islands Quarter is now up on Colors of Paradise TV. Check it out; speeches and interviews with the Governor, U.S. Mint Deputy Director and with Ronnie (one of our message board regulars)! Also great shots of quelbe dancers, people dressed in traditional madras outfits, mocko jumbies and more!

Yes, it was a nice historic day!
Thanks Ronnie for being in the video!

I watched the video. Notice how she said it showed "all three of the islands?" If you see her on the street, tell her the bump is island number 4: Water Island. Just can't get no respect...
AACK!!
I need to watch my change!
You can get ready-made state quarter necklaces (including VI of course!) from http://www.coinsofamerica.com for a whopping $24. They made ScotiaBank's commemorative product.
Thanks Ms411.
