As our trip nears, I have yet more questions:

Which STT grocery store has the most reasonable prices in general? There are just 2 of us, so Save-U-More probably isn't for us.

We would just be buying staples, like rum. (oh, and milk, OJ, bread, meat, etc.). Produce we'll get at a stand.

We are staying at Sapphire and will probably just stop on the way from the airport, so location isn't really an issue.

Second, is Organic Act Day next Tues widely recognized - will businesses and shops be closed?

Thanks for your feedback on these and other questions!

Is the booze significantly cheaper at Kmart than grocery stores? If possible Id like to only make one stop on the way in and Im assuming Kmart doesn't have any meat.

thanks for the info!

Near the baggage claim is a very small liquor store, but they will probably have everything you'll need.

Also, if you're staying at Sapphire, you'll most likely shop at Marina Market, which is right in Red Hook and there's also the Food Center. If it's only the 2 of you, I'd just stop and get a few things there and be done with it.

I'm with Connie, we just buy a box of booze at the A H Riise store at the airport.

Cheers, RickG

Cost-U-Less for liquor (IMHO..... the best prices) and most everything else. You can buy small quantities of vegetables and fruit, etc.

Marina Market for convenience.

Organic food....there is a produce stand just outside Red Hook going toward the Food Mart..

Hi - for convenience sake - in the long run you'll save $ NOT driving around to different places. I agree with Connie - the airport liquor store beside baggage claim is the bomb. You can sample all the flavored ice cold rum while you're browsing and just make your 'beverage' choices there. This is where we ALWAYS get our adult beverages and we have been going for YEARS! The markets usually carry the regular rums - not flavored, if I recall. On the way to Sapphire or literally within walking distance - though be careful - the Marina Market is very cool!! I wouldn't suggest going on a Saturday - the markets tend to be really picked over. I believe produce days are Tuesdays!?!
Have a great time!

I agree with the airport store. Great selection and nice folks. For my 2 cents though, I'd just stop at the Marina Market. It's quick and easy. In and out in 5 min no problem. Booze there may be a buck more or a buck less but the time and convenience is tops. Don't know how much booze you will be buying but ya got to lug it with you so if that's and issue go to Sapphire and unload and run back, 3/4 mile to the Marina market. All depends on your mode of travel as well. A taxi may not want to stop at the market if there are others in with you who need to go elsewhere.

We always have a rolling carry-on that we squeeze in bottles of liquor we buy at the airport while waiting for our luggage. The taxi will charge you for each piece of luggage so you should try to shove the liquor bottles into your bags before you get the taxi. Else, the few bucks you just saved will be lost with the taxi baggage fee.

I think that holiday was decommissioned as a holiday a few years back.

Believe it or not, KMart has the best prices on some grocery staples. It's almost like nobody told them prices have gone up. I try to get my eggs there, because they're still $1.79/doz. They have OJ (Tropicana, I think) and other juices. They have sliced bread. Cheese. Lunch meats. Mayonnaise. Cereals. Butter. Milk.

They run out of the eggs all the time, but most of the other things they have all the time. If you stop at the little KMart at Lockhart, there's a new organic food store in the complex that just opened last week - Sun something, I think. They'll have meats and other fresh produce, so you could get what you couldn't get a KMart right there without making another stop.

Cost-U-Less does not require you to buy everything in bulk. They have very good produce and meat sections, as well as the other things you are looking for.
