Your wishes and good thoughts are mis directed.

The track of this storm is at 17.0 N 68.9 W.

STX is at 17.6 N 66.64 W.

Alpha is 160+ miles from the VI.

The storm is currently SW of Puerto Rico and probably will track north over Hati and then into the Atlantic.

Jim

I'm not in the VI.

I spoke with VI friends earlier today. They said it was very windy (so much so that one caller had to cut the cell phone conversation short). One of my friends was on the golf course. I don't think they're feeling much pain right now.

What do yuo mean by that? "Your wishes and good thoughts are mis directed" What is that supposed to mean? I was just a bit concerned since i was looking at the map and noticed some distrubed weather in your area. Forgive me for caring. So Jim please don't respond with your insults.

Geez, get a life. He only mentioned that the storm is not near the islands. Sounds to me like you need an island vacation. You're obviously stressed out!

Mr. Favis Island had actually booked his island vacation on STJ for somewhere around now , cancelled in spite of lots of advice to the contrary , and rescheduled for later . He's been saying weather prayers for everyone on the USVI. Except maybe the dolphins in their polluted lagoon that he wants his children to swim with?

Why don't you read "Jim Dandy's" statement again. Please do that before responding and take a minute or two and think about what you are about to write then take a deep breath and then start typing.

Good luck...

Thank you Bluewater i was just wondering what and if you guys are feeling anything downthere. If you guys all look at Whilma even though it was stuck in Cancun for almost 2 days the tip of Whilma caused major floods in Ft. Lauderdale area which is more than 700 miles away so being only 160 miles away from Alpha i was just curious if you guys feel anything.

Again thank you Bluewater for the response.

We really are fine, at least on STX. It did rain on and off during the night -- we got about 2 inches here on my hill -- and the wind did blow. But it's really no different than typical during rainy season. Losing phone service or electricity for a brief time during storms is not unusual. Part of the cost of living in paradise.

The first November I was here it rained more that 26 inches for the month. I was seriously considering building a boat!! Rainest month ever recorded.

But Fav,you were right to postpone. If I had planned for a year for a week's vacation in the VI and it was last week or this week, I'da been pissed. Coulda been worse, you could have been in Playa del Carmen, Cosumel or Cancun.

Thank you for the response Linda. No offense to Cancun or all those people that go there but i have been there once and Cancun is no paradise at all. You can not compare the beauty of the USVI to Cancun. To me Cancun was just a big huge party town and i don't care for that type of thing and didn't care for their beaches at all.

With all due respect, occasionally the writer's intention gets lost the internet. Very kind people come across as argumentative or callous at times. There are members of this community (vinow) who have lived through devastating hurricanes and are extremely sensitive to the experience of others. While we could debate the attractiveness of various Caribbean destinations, it would be moot in the face of the catastrophy that is befalling the Yucatan. Virgin Islanders tend to feel that it is only by the grace of God that we were not in harm's way. If you are of a mind, favisland, you might consider a prayer for the residents of Wilma affected areas and those in Alpha's path.

Fav
Cancun is not my favorite place but been to Playa Del Carmen which was wiped out by Wilma & the while it hasn't even hit Florida yet. So how did Ft Launderdale get flooded? My sister in law lives there & I talked to her last night, she didn't mention flooded roads.
You cancelled your trip in October which I can understand but there are people going in November which is supposely the rainest month but you can't predict the weather. I have been to the Virgin Islands as well as other islands in December & found the weather not up to par to some degree & really rough waters. I do have friends in St Thomas who tells me never come in December. But please don't post everytime a storm goes through & rub it in that it is probably raininng & you are happy you cancel. You say that you are posting to hope the island is okay but every post I read you have to mention that you are glad you cancel. This is like you are rubbing in to those who are there or are going there. Please give it a rest, you made your point 🙂 Hope you have a good time in December, come November I will be enjoying St Thomas rain or shine & I will be basting in Hawaii in December

I couldn't have said it better EastEnder. Many people lost their lives with Wilma & the destruction it wrecked on the places it hit is unreal. And now another one is out there. What a year for storms.

What's so funny Barb? I know exactly what "Bluewater" and NOT blubeard said.

P.S.
And it's not in the islands but on the islands.

Hi - just came back 2 days early from STJ. We left Sat since we were supposed to fly into Miami on Monday afternoon. We were staying at Beyond the Sea, about 200' above ocean, above Great Cruz Bay. It sounded like we were going to blow away in the middle of the night. Woke up to check the weather channel, just as they were showing graphics about Alpha, the power went out. Kind of spooked us. We checked the local paper before we left on the barge and it said that it could turn into a hurricane without notice. Geez. a hurricane in Miami on return trip and a possible one where we were. Just my luck! One thing - the radar never seems to show much of what is happening to the south or east of you. Makes it hard to get a feel for what is coming. Well, had about 6 hours of sleep last 2 days, so going to sleep. Still REALLY bummed about having to leave early, even tho it was only 2 days. But it's better to be safe and we had to try to miss Miami and still get flights home. So we can go to work... Yuk - rather be there sitting on the deck, drinking my morning cup of coffee. Told my 4 kids that we are starting a new vacation fund. Since they insisted we leave early, I made them promise we could go again!

Thank you Tree i was just wondering what some of the experiences the people were having down there since i have a few cousins that are down there now and we are not able to get a hold of them since they don't believe in phones when on the islands.

Barb, Jim Dandy, and John in Orlando please, please i beg you not to respond to my threads if you can not answer the question. I will repeat it again for the three of you, "Are you guys feeling any of these winds?" Simple a yes or a no with have been suffucient instead of going on and on about some other stuff. I guess arguing on the internet is like talking to a blank wall.
