I worked there until 2 weeks ago. You will find the rooms very small. VERY small. You can check them out at www.magenspoint.com. Small, but usable. November should be good because they may not be full. If they aren't full (ask when you are checking in if they are...or what percentage they expect to be for that week), as soon as you get in your room, make a list of the discrepancies and go back to the lobby and ask for the manager, Jeff Higgs. Tell him that you came here with the intention of buying another week of timeshare, but that the rooms didn't meet your expectations. If he has any brains, he will upgrade you for free to a one bedroom unit in Magens Bay Villas Club, which is on the same property. Much nicer rooms and a better view. The activities schedule in your welcome packet is really a nice thing. Barbie, the Activities Director tries very hard to show everyone a good time. I wouldn't recommend buying into Magens (or Sapphire, which will be partnered in with them by then), as it is a very shoddily run company, in my opinion. That's why I left. If they are offering the "Our Vacation Club" product, I would buy into that. That thing is great. But, you might want to buy it from Rick Heubner in Las Vegas, as that is where Magens gets them from. Why put any money in Magens pocket if you don't have to? (plus, I don't have any lost feelings for them! Haha!) You can contact him at www.royaltravelvacationclub.com. Even if you get stuck in TLC. just make the most of it. The activities are good, the restaurant, INDiGO, is phenominal and STT isa great place to spend a vacation. Highly recommend the "Welcome to St. Thomas Island Tour and Sail" offered by Jimmy Loveland at the Orientation on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Great trip and you can't beat the price. $50 p/p and it includes EVERYTHING!

Thanks for the info Marty, you have not given me a warm feeling about the accommodations. I know they are pretty isolated out there --- what about the surrounding area, is it safe at night? What is around there in the evening in the way of restaurants etc.

The accomodations in the TLC are very much on the small side, that's all. Didn't want to put a downer on your vacation...sorry.

And, basically, nothing on this island is "isolated". The island is only 13 miles long X 3 miles wide. From Magens Point Resort, the furthest reaches of the island are within a 20 minute ride.

Safety is what you make of it. I'm sure there are areas in your town that you would hesitate to enter at certain times. Same thing here. Just don't put yourself in any bad situations and you will have nothing to worry about.

At Magens Point, there is INDiGO (wonderful, and not pricey, either) and The Old Stone Farmhouse (great-but pricey) is next door...and, of course, you can always go to Brooks (just a tiny little Puerto Rican bar that serves cheap food....I like it!). But you will have to venture to Charlotte Amalie/Frenchtown or Red Hook to have choices.

The Activities Director, Barbara Harty, will be more than happy to steer you in the right direction...she's got a bunch of stuff planned for you that is always a hoot. Just pick and choose what suits ya.

Thanks Marty for all the information you have been extremely helpful. Appreciate the tips on the restaurants. French Town is there much going on there?

One more ? can you walk to Magens Beach from the condos --- it says it is only half a mile from the beach?

Yep, there are severl nice restaurants in Frenchtown. Craig and Sally's is always in the top ten of restaurants on island, and one of my favs is Noche, Oceana has a great location and sits right on the water. Check 'em out, you'll be pleased. "Frenchtown" is just what they call the western edge of town, on the other sideof the street, it's not far.

And, yes, you can walk to the beach from Magens Point. Just remember to walk on the RIGHT side of the road, facing on-coming traffic. Be careful, as there is no sidewalk. Just remember to ask the front desk if the beach gate is open first, otherwise you have to walk around the resort, which adds about 5 minutes to your walk. They also have a free shuttle to the beach (schedule will be in your welcome packet). Most people don't mind walking down, but prefer to take the free shuttle back up, or a cab (probably $2 or $3). Just wait till you try one of the milkshakes after a beach day at Udder Delight next door! YUM!!! Absolute BEST on the planet!

Have fun!!

Four others worth mentioning in Frenchtown are ALexander's Bella Blu, Tuscan Grill, Epernay , and Hook, Line, and SInker.

I LOVE Hook, Line & Sinker's lunch on the day after they do turkeys! Friday, I think it is? That's just like Thanksgiving feast for lunch! Yummy! And the schnitzel at Bella Blu is right up there with Petra's!
