We just got back last night from a beautiful trip. We stayed at the Emerald Beach Resort and would recommend it. It is right on the beach, reasonable, restaurant right on the water, and small enough to be friendly. It was so handy to the airport that my husband walked over there and back to rent a car. Nothing to do there at night was the only negative.
If you go to STT, you should definitely rent a car, at least for a day or two. Taxis are high. While we were there , they raised the rates due to fuel being high. With a car, you are given freedom to do as you want. Driving on the left takes about an hour to get used to, and then, no problem, mon.
We took the ferry to StJ and then took the island tour with the guys who meet the ferry. Very reasonable at $17 a person, and we saw all the sights. Do eat at Woody's! Also, on STT, I recommend Room With a View at Bluebeard's Castle--very romantic.
The tram at Paradise Point, STT , was a favorite. My only negative comments: the heat!!! I have never been in such humidity, being from a dry part of Texas. My hair and shirt were just dripping the whole time. I don't think I will go back there during the summer again.

Thanks Docnan for sharing. It has been real hot and humid lately... and usually gets a bit hotter in July-August!
