Been back home 6 days now, and I already want to go back.
Was in STT from 2/25 to 3/1 and had a great time.
There were many things that made this trip wonderful, but I think it was the friendly people there that made the differnce. Everyone we met, from locals, to other visitors, and from the place we stayed, were the greatest. I guess living and being in paradise will do that to you. lol
First of all, we stayed at the Bolongo Bay Beach Club and it was fantastic. Very nice and clean, with a very friendly staff. They made us feel like family. If you are looking for a moderatly priced place to stay that is right on the beach, this is the place. The beach it self is not the greatest (alittle rocky) but still nice. The restuarant was great. Good food, and service, with a million dollar view of the bay from our table. The bar at Bolongo was great too. Harry the bartender was a riot. He made the best drinks. I tried a Bushwacker. Man, talking about a drink. I don't really go for fancy drinks, but they were so good, I drank a few everynight. We were all-inclusive, so we ate, and drank there every night.
Our first night there was Carribean night down at there beach bar called Iggie's. It was great trying some local food, and the show was awesome. Iggie's itself is a nice, laid-back beach bar with a great view, good food and drink, but alittle slow on sevice. All in all it was real nice.
2/26...... Went on the Island Tour. They (Tropic Tours) took us around the island to see Magens bay, the Great House, Drakes seat, and Mountain Top. Stopped at a few points along the way to take some pics. One place where Rockerfellers house is, I got some great pics of the harbor and Charlotte Amalie. Then we ended up on Main St. for some shopping.
2/27...... The wife went shopping, again, while I headed over to Red Hook. Wanted to checkout the charter boats and see what fish they were bringing in. I'm a big time fisherman on the Chesapeake Bay. Did alittle bar hopping. Nice town.
2/28...... Went to Coal World. Very nice. Saw alot of differant fish and other sea life. Got to pet a shark, and the underwater observatory was awesome. A must see. The rest of the day, we layed on the beach until dinner. Then after dinner, we hung out at the bar.
2/29..... Sunday, and I guess alittle rain must fall, even in paradise. This was a great day to just lay around and do nothing. But there was one thing that I had to do, and that was to be at Iggie's at 1:00pm for the VINOW get-together. There were a dozon of us from the board that met that day, and everyone was great. Ronnie was trying to talk the wife and I into moving down there, but he didn't need to convence my wife about that. She was already talking about it, and even priced a few homes to buy. I am a Trucker, and I don't know if I could get use to driving on the left side of the road, but you never know. lol
3/1..... Sad, sad day indeed. It is the day we had to go home. We hung out at the Beach House (Bolongo's restaurant) until we had to go to the airport. That gave us time to say thanks, and goodbye to all the friendly people at Bolongo. I will diffenatly stay there again when we come back. The wife wants to go back THIS summer, but we will see what happens.
The weather was great the whole week, except for Sunday (2/29) where it rained most of the day. The temps was in the low 80's. The day before we left our home in Maryland, it snowed, so I was ready for some warm weather.
I have been to many places like Hawaii, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and Florida, and they are all nice, but I think I have found my island home in STT.
Good one Dave. I can't wait for our next trip.
Thanks Dave; wonderful to hear you had a great time - and definately start planning that summer trip!!
