No, that’s not a misprint in the title. We are not in the VI until 6/21 but since I am terrible about getting a trip report out after our trip I thought getting a pre-trip report out might make it easier to add to rather than initiate one or at the very least shame me into doing one in a timely manner. I am somewhat of a perfectionist so if my pictures do not do justice I can’t comment and the report languishes on my hard drive until it crashes and I am no longer to blame.
Regardless, we (visitors) have all been here. You make the reservations and start to count down. Some use ‘tickers’ but we use our family calendar. Until our kids went to college the calendar was always tagged with soccer games, PTA meetings, birthday parties, etc. but now we are able to put down our dates. Unlike some very fortunate individuals who make the trip every year or twice a year (you know who you are and we are very envious) we become excited when planning 12 months out. Then we high five at six months, three months, one month, holy ----, two weeks!!!!
So here we are. The sofa in the living room has become the staging area. Snorkeling gear, clothing, camera(s) and medical (yes, we are no longer twenty somethings) are laid out for the ‘first cut’. While I take the approach that two t-shirts and one bathing suit is all I need, my better half tends to require more options. In my mind she doesn’t need them but I write that off as a Mars/Venus thing and move on.
The problem we have is flying into PR and then onto STT via Cape Air. Don’t get me wrong this is a great way to visit the VI. You fly a small plane and you are immediately immersed into the area. You literally fly amongst the clouds and see everything from the air rather than looking though a small portal. The problem is it is a small plane so luggage is fairly restrictive. Not a bad thing when going on vacation but it does make the ‘cut’ that more challenging. Given that Mars/Venus thing cutting is usually deeper on my end.
Moving on from the luggage and trip down we are really looking forward to staying the first night in Crystal Palace and finally getting to meet RonUSVI. It’s always nice to put a face to name and people have always spoken so highly of him. Then it is on to Soft Winds on STJ for two weeks. We have been saving since last May so the entire trip is paid for and I can’t tell you how much more enjoyable that already makes the trip feel. No stress before, during or after.
Soft Winds is truly our getaway as it sits atop Cocolobo Point with stunning views and relaxing isolation. We scheduled this trip to see the July 4th (er 5th) celebration and other than a day out on Breath and massage in the villa (kids Xmas present) we are leaving everything open. There is nothing like ‘island time’ and ‘limin’ for one to recharge the batteries and flush the soul.
That’s enough for now. I will be back in touch after the 7th of July.
Enjoy Independence Day and the upcoming World Cup. I know we will. 😎
