The owner of the Villa we rented last May told us about Lindquist Beach. He said it was beautiful. This morning we decided to find that broke chain link fence and give it a try. We decided to give it a try. The road to the beach can be pretty bumpy but with a jeep, no problem.

This beach is not just beautiful...it's gorgeous!! When we got there, there was only another couple. They left and we had the beach and the water to ourselves for awhile. I have no idea why some big fat corporation hasn't jumped on this piece of land. We didn't snorkel, but we brought noodles, some snacks and beer. It's actually located right near Sapphire and we stayed there awhile. This beach will forever be in our minds and we'll certainly go back.

We headed back to Sapphire Beach and snorkeled the right hand side of the beach. There's still some really good coral out there, but what a shame to see people standing on it. WHY do people do that? Can't they read the signs or don't they know it's deadly???

After snorkeling a bit we decided to rent a kayak....ohboy....so, i get my butt in that kayak, i'm all ready to go in the back and husband takes a flying leap into the front. Dry one minute, soaked the next. A nice gentleman on the beach said he would hold it for us. Word of caution. Get in kayaks gently or else you end up with bruises on your arms and legs. Still funny and another moment we'll remember. Kayaking out on the water is pretty, but it's hard work!!

Went back to the condo, showered and got dressed and caught the 6pm ferry over to STJ. We decided to do a little shopping. I went directly to St. John Spice. Ruth wasn't in, but i bought my favorite garlic and pepper spice (one for mom who loves it), some Cruz Bay Grill Rub, a great map of the Virgin Islands (husband will frame), a pirate flag for our boat, etc. Ruth has a great shop there and I highly recommend it.

Ran over to the Beach Bar for a quick beer and back to St. John Spice again....no Ruth! I knew we would catch her another time.

As we're shopping, our friend at Sapphire gives us a call and wants us to meet them back on STT. The whole gang were going to Lattitude 18 for dinner. We take the 8pm ferry back.

Lattitude 18- They have great meals there. Usually about 5 specials. The only thing we had at Lattitudes was like a shrimp scampi without the pasta with alot of break to soak up that scamp....mmmmmmm excellent. Another thing....this is a typical on the water, rustic type place with local guys playing music. Just our kind of place. Word of warning.....this place is probably the hardest place to find at night but by the end of the week i "thought" we had it down :o) All I have to say is god bless my husband for driving.

Next day - Husbands Birthday!!!!!!

Connie, you said in reference to Lindqvist Beach (note the spelling, it's not LindqUist but LindqVist and the family of that name do get a bit miffed about this common misspelling) "This beach is not just beautiful...it's gorgeous!! When we got there, there was only another couple. They left and we had the beach and the water to ourselves for awhile. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY SOME BIG FAT CORPORATION HASNT JUMPED ON THIS PIECE OF LAND." Last sentence my emphasis.

An outside "big fat corporation" did indeed buy the land from the Lindqvist family a few years ago and way after the VI government had continued to backtrack for years on obtaining the property for alleged lack of money. When the outside "big fat corporation" purchased the property, their plans for a grandiose development of the property and thie closingg off the beach to publc access raised such local ire that the VI government finally stepped in and, by dint of eminent domain, obtained the property. There is of course much more to the story!

However, the plan is for the Magens Bay authority who has most successfully and without government funding, diligently run Magen's Bay for decades, form a plan for the sustainment of Lindqvist Beach in the same manner.

It's going to take a while for this to happen, Cheers!
