Hello all! Just returned from a week long visit to paradise!! Thank you all for your previous recommendations and info. Our family, which consisted of 3 "older" folks(50's-60's) 4 middies (35-40) and 2 young uns (8 and 6) had the vacation of a lifetime on beautiful St Thomas.
First off, we stayed at a private villa called Casa Bougainvillea -- located on the East End on Cabrita Point. Great place to stay - would recommend it highly. Mostly we stuck to the East End of the island for shopping and dining. We did most of our shopping at Marina Market -- a little more expensive but worth the convenience. We ate most of our dinners out. I would recommend Blue Moon Cafe, Whale of a Tale, Agave Terrace, and Molly Malone's. Do not go to The Frigate!
We went to different beaches every day and each one was a totally different experience.
Sapphire was nice - went snorkeling along the reef on the far right hand side of the beach. There is a line of rocks all along the edge of the sand going in (for erosion?) a bit annoying but once you get past them nice sandy bottom.
Magen's Bay - of course, absolutely beautiful- the kids practiced snorkeling here but not much to see, no waves of any kind, great soft sand for the kids to play in and great scenery to drink by.
Morning Star - decent snorkeling, good waves, fun beach. One of the kids favorites.
Coki - Kids (and Adults) loved all the fish around here. Beach was okay - first time on island I saw any kind of garbage lying around the beach or in the water (many cigarette butts)
Ritz Beach ( only because it was close to where we were staying) - nice beach, good waves and decent snorkeling too. They let us use their beach lounges at no cost as long as it wasn't full with guests (which it wasn't).
St John -- Trunk Bay - went early -snorkeling trail was great with kids, not crowded at all(went on a day that had no cruise ships in at STT) softest sand ever, great waves - this was our favorite.
Hawksnest - good snorkeling, good waves, almost deserted - great!
Had a fantastic time. If anyone has any more specific questions feel free to email me and ask.
Oh - we rented two cars from Dependable - had no problems at all.
Dianne - thanks for the report sounds like you had a great time- good to hear it!! Which of the Ritz beaches did you go to - the smaller one in the resort or the larger by the new villas??? Just wondering as I had someone tell me a few weeks ago that they weren't allowed to drive in to get to the beach were told to go down another beach access road that was actually blocked???
Thanks again

Dianne: I have to defend The Frigate... I am assuming you had a bad experience, and I know that can occur at the best spot! The Frigate is one of our "reliables" for the East End. I hope you spoke to the manager about your problem. It is funny, because you named at least one restaurant that I would not recommend, but you were evidently there on a good day!!!
As long as the Frigate doesnt have Brian working there!!!!
