Just back from a seven day trip in stt , and had a great time. The beaches are great. Make sure you visit coki beach and sapphire beach on stt . They have the most beautiful clear blue waters and the snorkeling is good. Megans bay is awesome for it's scenery, and with all the people there it's great for people watching. We also really enjoyed shopping down town. The little shops that go up and down the alley ways that have been there since the pirate days were a adventure.
Make sure you stop at Duffy's love shake for a drink and buy a t-shirt so you can say you hung out at one of the hot spots in stt. Todd the bar tender makes a mean drink. If your looking for a friendly place to have a good meal and a drink, check out the Caribbean saloon in red hook. Parking is tuff in red hook, just be patient or try parking on the main street, on the shoulder .
Most all the restaurants have great food but we were pleasantly surprised at the x/o bistro in red hook. Great food and live entertainment.
One thing that is must is you have to rent a jeep and explore the islands of STT and STJ . STJ is a magical place , and the beaches are even more beautiful than the beaches on STT , if thats possible.
Check out IGGY'S IN BALONGO BAY STT. always something going on there. The hot spot on STT moves around the island each night . Some where different each night . Just ask a local on the beach during the day and they will tell you where it is that night.
CAN'T WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR
( PS) If one of locals are rude to you , stand up to them because if it wasn't for you there life style would be alot worse. Don't worry you won't run into alot of that.
Thanks for the report. I do have to say that I kind of disagree with your last comment. While I definitely don't think it's necessary for the locals to be rude, I don't think any tourist should make a big deal over it. Not every local works in the tourism/service industry and tourism doesn't exactly make their quality of life spectacular. Most of the locals I have met work incredibly long hours just to get by. Remember, this is their home that we are visiting....and we are expecting them to cater to us so that we can enjoy their home while they slave just to make ends meet. Imagine living in that paradise and only getting to truly enjoy it once a week or even less (because you work more than one job)! Then on top of it you see boatloads of vacationers who get to lounge around all day drinking rum and working on their tans. It's a catch-22 for them and as tourists, we might catch some locals on a bad day. My advice would be that if a local treats you rudely, forget about it and go about your business. It's not worth taking a stance and acting like your tourism dollars are the only reason they can pay bills. I have found that when I act with humility and sincere appreciation of their good service, that the locals are quite accommodating and pleasant. There are certain places and situations when I expect less smiles (like the grocery store) but I'm not about to take it personally. I've worked in customer service and it certainly takes a toll....especially when you rarely get a day off.
Glad you had fun!
Glad you had a good time, Todd, but, AMEN, Crystal!!
Dear crytal
I respect your opinion , but i to work in the services industry and deal with the public on a daily basis and i don't have the luxury of being rude to my customers when i am having a bad day. Now if someone is being rude to me in the process of me servicing there needs in my field, then i think it only proper to return the favor. How else do we detour this person from continuing this type of behavior with someone else. Remember treat others like you want to be treated. Anything else is just a excuse. Please don't get me wrong , i only had a couple of rude encounters and i was being polite at the time and was stunned when it happened . Of course i am sure they were just having a bad day, we all do at some time or other. I would think if i lived on a beautiful island and wanted tourist to return visit . i would be polite at all times.
I guess none of us can really say with certainty how we would behave unless we lived there and experienced life in their shoes. Nobody is polite at all times when required to work the hours many of those locals work. And telling someone that he/she is acting rudely and that the only reason locals have jobs is because of tourists like us probably doesn't go far in improving one's personality. I stand by my advice to just let it roll off. It isn't worth a confrontation. Such confrontations only make the confronter feel better through venting, but rarely improve the behavior of the confrontee.
