Trip report 1/13 to1/20
Part one
A little back ground for this trip. This trip was my wife’s last wish to have her ashes spread on Hawksnest. She wanted select friends and family members to go. Most that had never been there before and she wanted them to see her favorite place on earth. So this trip was filled with fun times and tears.
6 of the 12 drove down to Chicago on Friday 2 others flew to STT on Friday and stayed over night there. 2 went down on Thursday and the owners of the villas have been down since before the first of the year. 6:00 am flight for 4 on USAIRWAYS and 6:00am flight for the other 2 on AMERICAN. US got us down 40 mins early. But the American flight was an h 1-½ hours late. So I sent the others downtown to meet up with the couple that had stayed over night and I waited for my sister and her husband’s plane at the airport. Gathered them up and found the rest at a bar in Drakes Passage. Made the 5:40 downtown ferry. We decided that we need some beers for the ferry ride ran and got a bunch. We didn’t know you can’t have bottles on the ferry so the ones with red stripes and Caribs had to slam them cans are fine though.
Great sun set on the ride over got to STJ. My brother in-law and I walked up to C&C car rental to get the 2 jeeps. We were told they would be there with our names in them. Well there aren’t any there. So I called the home number on the building the person who answers tells me they were there when he checked at noon. Well they are not there now!! Just as we are about ready to leave and get a taxi the 2 cars pull up and the people driving get out and tell us they just filled them up and washed them for us. We don’t care so we hop in and off we go. Pick every body up and head to Cygnus.
We unpack the coolers and head to Woody’s right away Look on there web site under week ending 1/14 you will see us in the middle of the page. Stayed much to late for having gotten up at 3:30.Back to the villa to have a night cap and to watch the stars.
What a beautiful place for you to spread your wife's ashes. That's so touching, and I can see why she'd ask for that. No better place to spend your "eternity." 🙂 St. John really is heaven on earth.
That's awesome !
keep 'em coming tho, that was just enough to tease us!!
I've been looking forward to this report - even though I know it is going to make me cry. Thanks for sharing, Tom. I'm looking forward to the rest.
Good call with Woody's being your first stop! Looking forward to the rest of your report. 🙂
I've got to say thats both tough and wonderful at the same time. My wife and I have said several times that if something happened to one of us take the life insurance charter a boat, take our friends and spread the ashes throughout the islands. Actually I wanted a viking burial but my wife says she will outlive me and I cant have the boat burn with me, (I don't mean any disrespect by this I was serious the first time I said it to her and she was to when she said she would out live me an keep the boat). I hope the whole trip went well.
God bless.
Jay
How wonderful you're respecting your wishes. I am so sorry for your loss.
Waterguy - - I also have been looking forward to your report. I'm sure the entire trip was bittersweet for so many reasons. Salt water heals all wounds, even those of the heart....
Waterguy, I've been waiting anxiously for your report also. Glad that the first day went well for you. Kathleen
An incredible story of friendship and love for each other and for the islands. Thanks for sharing. I know it was very emotional for you, and I thank you for sharing.
