Hi can someone tell me how the weather end of August. We ha not taken a vacation in a long long time, my 3 kids aging 7 to 14 are very excited we will be spending 6 nights end of Aug. But someone says it rains a lot during that time and also if anyone has travelled with asthma. Is it really bad weather that could induce Asthma attack.

I am planning spending
1 day at Colin beach
1 day Megan's bay and some other beach hopping!!
1day tour to baths ( not sure how to arrange that yet but I have read some suggestion on trip advisory) this seems to be a great blogging site to get opinion.
So anyone has any experience to share + other things to do for rest of the days
I saw a lot of food suggestions.... Thanks to whoever did that. Anyone with transportation or best ways to get around
What to watch out etc

You really can't tell with weather. Last year we experienced severe drought conditions. That being said, it is hurricane season and we do have periods of Sahara Dust that can affect those with asthma. Best be prepared, just in case. Might be good to have travel insurance.

The best way to get around is by rental car.
If your staying on east end, you might try taking a safari $2 open air taxi but they only run off the main road so walking with kids, beach gear, etc., on roads with no sidewalks, may not be for the best, regular taxis are expensive and public transportation is limited and unreliable and won't get you to most beaches or resorts and they only run on main roads so same issues with lugging stuff and walking.

They have day trips up to the BVI and the Baths from STT. However you need passports to enter and exit the BVI.

There is no Colin Beach. Maybe you mean Coki. Coki, Sapphire, Smith Bay Beach, Secret Harbor and others are on the east end, all beautiful, all relatively close by but with a car, it'll make your life easier to come and go as you please, when you please.

There's a restaurant coupon book that's good for discounts on meals, think it's about $25 and offers bogo, discounts on meals or drinks, etc at different restaurants.
Maybe someone else can chime in on where to purchase them.

Hey, Mom! Welcome. I guess you are staying on St Thomas? I'm not sure what Colin Beach is, though. Beach hopping is easy. You can drive your rent car (suggested transportation) to a different beach each day, if you wish, although many people park themselves on the beach by their hotel/condo.

There are many options for a Baths day. You all need passports for that. My favorite is: http://www.piratespenny.com/ but you will find smaller and larger boats.

As to the weather, you can just never tell. Yes, it is the rainy season, but no, it doesn't rain all the time. It is a fairly quiet time, so you will have lots of space on the beach! It's a good idea to have trip insurance, if you are worried about the weather.

I'm surprised that East Ender would say that August is in the rainy season. It's in hurricane season but statistically May and November are the wettest months. But that's not anything I would worry about. It's really rare to have several days of rain in a row - a rainy day usually quickly gives way to bright sun and otherwise the year-round weather sees occasional fast-moving showers which keep our foliage green and our cisterns topped up!

If you don't want to stop for snorkeling en route, you can visit the Baths via the ferry. This is the choice of many visitors as it affords the most time on Virgin Gorda. The ferry schedule is linked top of this page under "Travel/Transport". Have fun planning!

Many years ago it was predictable that we would get rain in April and in November. In more recent years it has been "anything goes" in my opinion. I know little about asthma so not sure how rain affects it. It seems like the Sahara dust (which comes and goes) would be more of an issue. My non medical advice would be that if the asthma is not life threatening go ahead with your vacation plans and hope for the best. There is no perfect time to come to the islands. A bit hotter in August but quieter beaches. But yes, it is hurricane season. Most resorts will offer you a discount if we are threatened by a hurricane put a lot of the airlines are taking a different tack. They allow you to change your dates with a short window of time. If your kids are back in school that is pretty useless for you. Hope you have a wonderful stay!

Just saw your post. We've been traveling to StJ the past 17 years at that time and other than the occasional storm has been awesome. Although be prepared it is extremely warm but I'm sure you expect that. I have approximately 50% lung capacity due to Cystic Fibrosis and get by. We're not doing anything that strenuous other than snorkeling and lugging a cooler with a few cocktails to the beach. If you do hike, I would suggest early in the morning. The positives greatly out weigh the negatives for me and my family. Have a wonderful trip.

It is hot in Aug but probably cooler than many places in the states. It is usually pretty dry unless a hurricane forms. One can't predict mother nature. Hope you have a great trip.
