Greetings all - I am coming down to escape for an extended vacation. Taking basic dive cert classes and open dive before I come. Want to snorkle, dive, trip to stj/bvi, hike, sun on beach, kayak the Salt River. I understand the usual precautions - lock valuables, no "touristy" look, caution after dark, etc. - My question is more of the best way to do all I want being alone. I was taught to either do things with someone or to leave details of where you are going(hiking, etc.) with someone who can check on you. Oops - noone to do that! -

I can go on a dive with one of the dive shops, take the nhII trip to bvi, what about snorkling, kiking, etc.? Will be staying at a west-end (more remote) site. Will be here 4 + weeks.

Any thoughts welcome.

Linda, I hadn't really thought about it, but for some reason I usually tell the hotel desk where I'm going and what I'm doing. I guess it's because they are so friendly and full of good advice, but I suppose it is a good safety tip too.

Even though you are going alone, there are very few places where you will actually be alone. Strike up a conversation and you should be fine.

ENJOY!
