I realize this is a USVi board but I was wondering if anyone (locals perhaps) know if there is a way to get from STJ to Anegada via ferry. I'm guessing you could always charter a private boat but I was wondering if there is any public transportation. Maybe STJ to Tortola then Anegada? Any help or advice on finding this out would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jill

As far as I know..the ferry from Tortola to Anegada leaves early and arrives back around 5..which would not leave you time to clear customs at St. John...you would almost have to spend the night before and after at Tortola..

Do you know if you could catch a ferry on STJ to Tortola to make the ferry out of Tortola to Anegada on time? Does this ferry run daily or only certain days?

Thanks for the help

I've heard from some people outside of this forum that the ferry runs from Tortola Monday, Wednesday, & Friday leaving Tortola at 7am and 3:30 p.m.

I'm still wondering if anyone has any other info. Our problem is we are looking to travel on Sunday and Thursday.

Anyone?!

Does anyone know if there are private boats you can hire to get you from STJ to Anegada?

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks again.

Jill

Jill: Are you trying to get to Anegada for a period of time or are you asking about a day trip? If you want to stay there, it will take you quite a bit of time, unless you go to St Thomas and charter a plane. I don't think you could make it as a day trip from St John. If it was easy to get there, everyone would be there.

Your best bet is a charter with Ace Flight Center in St. Thomas - http://aceflightcentervi.com/. Randy at Neptune's Treasure on Anegada recommends them. Otherwise you burn two days in transit. Anegada works well with a Virgin Gorda visit since the Anegada ferry stops at VG as well.

Anegada is beautiful, wild and rustic.

We are spending 2 weeks on STJ. After we check out of our villa we want to move to Anegada for a week. So it's not a day trip to Anegada it will be a week + vacation.

I'm assuming from the replys it's a full day of traveling, what I'm trying to find out is best route there from STJ

Still trying to confirm the Tortola ferry.

Thanks again for the help

Inter Island Boat Service has a ferry between St. John and Tortola, schedule shows a few daily trips. You can find that info. on the Ferry Schedules page of this site. Contact them to double check departures for the days you want to travel.

Smith's Ferry operates between Tortola and Anegada, but as you already noted its not daily. You can find the info. at http://smithsferry.com/anegada.php.

Have you asked for suggestions from the place you are staying in Anegada? They might know of a private boat that offers trips between Tortola and Anegada.

Dohm's is a private boat, water taxi on St. Thomas that offers USVI/BVI trips: http://www.dohmswatertaxi.com/.

Islander,

As always a wealth of knowledge, much appreciated. Thanks for the input. I'll research some stuff tomorrow. I did check with the place we are staying and they are recommending a chartered plane, hence the reason for my new post. If you know of charter companies out of STT that do private flying I'd love some input there.

Thanks again.

We traveled from St John to Anegada in early June and did the ferry. We took the 11am ferry on a Friday from St. John to West End Tortola, then took a taxi to East End Tortola, had lunch at Pussers and caught the 3:30 ferry to Anegada. The ferry took about an hour and went straight to Anegada. We were at Neptune's Treasure by 5:00. On the way back we caught the 8am ferry out of Anegada to East End, taxied back to West End and caught the 11am to St.John, cleared customs and my husband was back at work by 1:00. The ferry's cost us about $100 each round trip. Flying would have been cheaper but there was 6 of us and the plane only held 5.

If you do decided to take the ferry make sure you confirm the times from Stj a day or 2 in advance. Their times tend to fluctuate depending on who you talk to.

Anegada is a beautiful island.

Michelle

Do you have any info on chartered planes that I could check with to get to Anegada? What one did you look into that had a 5 seater?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jill

Jill,

We looked into Ace flight charter. It was the only charter company that had resonable prices. The other ones were in the the thousands of dollars for the weekend. We also got our recomendation about charter companies from Randy at Neptunes Treasure. He might know of some. Good luck!
