Greetings! I'm looking the the best way to transfer a group ( <15) from St. Croix to St. John. Is there a direct ferry?
There is no direct ferry. One would take the ferry from STX to STT and then a ferry from STT to STJ.
This is not an easy undertaking. The ferry between STX and STT only runs 4 days a week and is sometimes cancelled because of rough weather. I think the name is still SeaTrans and the number is 340-776-5494. The cost is $90 round trip and is takes about 90 minutes each way. The total time from STX to STT could easily be 2 1/2 hours each way.
Another option would be the seaplane between STX and STT and then the ferry to STJ. The number for Seaborne is 340-773-6442.
I would suggest a lot of research before deciding on taking this excursion.
Seaborne is the best. They will book both the seaplane to STT and the ferry to STJ. It's a short stroll from the flyboat dock in CA to the ferry landing. The plane ride is a giggle, the STX-STT boat is often the barf barge.
With a large group you may want to consider a yacht charter, check with the bareboat outfits in Tortola or STT for a captained catamaran,
In addition to the using the ferry and seaplane to get between St. Croix and St. Thomas you can also look into Cape Air: http://www.capeair.com.
