Hello,

We are visiting St Thomas at the end of May. Other than taking a day trip to St John, we'd also like to do a ferry trip to one of the BV islands.
Are there any car ferries to the BVI? If not, how can we get around the island from a passenger ferry?
Between Tortola and Jost Van Dyke, which one is more convenient to get around without a car?
Or is it better to just look for a charter company and do a boat trip excursion around the islands?
We'll be traveling with our 2.5 year old.

Thank you!

There are no car ferries between the USVI and the BVI. You can find the inter island ferry schedules and rates at "Quick Links"and "Ferry Schedules" top right this page. Transportation on any BVI will be by taxi. There are many charter boats which offer excursions to the BVI from St Thomas. Where on St Thomas are you staying?

Haven't finalized accommodation booking yet. But will likely be around Frenchman's Bay by the Marriott.
Are there places to walk around the ferry piers on the BVI? What beach would you recommend to visit on the BVI?
Did the Horizon boat tour years ago that took us to JVD, it was so beautiful but since our little one can't really snorkel yet we're probably better off just finding a beach and let him play in shallow water. Any recommendations for a family beach?
What's the going rate for taxi rides on the BVI? Do we have to exchange currency?

Thanks so much!

I personally think that STJ still has a lot more to offer. If you want to see some place new then JVD is next in line. But if you are looking for a less crowded beach, a real gem would be Smugglers Cove, a short cab ride from Tortola (West End). There are shops and restaurants at the dock but only 2 smoothies/alcohol bars at the beach.

Bring passports and mosquitoe repellents.

They use US$ throughout the BVI, even their british stamps has US currency printed on.

Hope this helps.
