You might want to try half and half. I have traveled all over the world and have never had any problems using traveler's checks - they are safe. But, you might want to have some cash on hand for bubble gum. 🙂

Hello CKMRR,

I agree with Sheryl, half/half is good. Travelers checks are accepted here in the VI. Bring cash, travelers checks and credit card - and you will be fine.

What is the standard ATM fee when w/drawing money and you are not a member of the bank that owns the ATM? I know in the states I can pay up to $2.25 per transaction plus the fee imposed by my bank if I do not use one of their ATMs.

Thanks,
Diane

Hello CKMRR,
We used our visa debit cards from Bank of America just about everywhere and carried a bit of cash. The charges at the ATM varied from no charge to $2.50. Our bank charged us differently too. Anywhere from nothing to $2.50. So our largest charge was $5.00. I don't know if it was based on the amount we took out or the bank we used. The only banks on the island are the ones Loyal Reader listed.
